Reviewing my Wayfarer nominations, I noticed that one of them displays the Niantic logo with the message “The Wayfarer team is reviewing your submission.” This is the first time I’ve seen this, and I really don’t know what it means.

This is normal. Staff does review submissions from time to time. It’s typically done to make sure ML is doing its job, basically for quality control reasons. It may also help educate staff on the review flow and criteria.
I’ve had a good number of my submissions reviewed by staff, with some being approved, some rejected, and some going into the review queue.
