There is No Longer Any Way to See If Your Submission is a Duplicate

Submitting with Pokemon GO
As you likely know, the Pokemon GO submission screen includes a slider to show all nearby Wayspots. However, in the past few days, this screen has been updated to show Dynamax imported locations as well, even though these are NOT Niantic Wayspots and are not visible to reviewers. When you click on them, they even say “Wayspot used in other Niantic games,” which is a total lie. This map now gives the impression that some locations are a duplicate, even if they’re not, so this map is no longer reliable. The Wayspot circled below is a Dynamax import.

Submitting with Ingress Prime
Ingress Prime has never had the ability to see nearby Wayspots. A former Niantic Wayfarer employee even said that they struggled to no avail to get the Ingress developers to add this feature.

Submitting with the Wayfarer App
Unlike Pokemon GO and Ingress, the Wayfarer App actually shows all Niantic Wayspots. Sadly, the app has now been discontinued for Android users and will soon be discontinued for Apple users. We were this close to having a usable map of Wayspots, and Niantic took it away from us.

So yeah, I can no longer tell for sure whether or not my submission is a duplicate. Thanks for all the hard work Niantic

What about the lightship.dev Geospatial Browser?

Yes, thank goodness for that website. Be careful mentioning it here though, because Niantic will see it and cut off access to that method too

Thanks. I hate it. Just checked the area within a 100 metre radius of where I live and there are so many orange pins, many of which have never even been Power Spots so far. Most of them are in completely the wrong places.

Wow…this isnt great. Im noticing at least in my area not every dmax spot is marked but there definitely are pins that arent wayspots of any kind on the map. I hope something can be done but I’m also afraid of the answer

This is being discussed here:

That thread is discussing the issue of nearby Wayspots not appearing on the PoGO submission map, which has now been “fixed.” My thread is discussing a larger issue, which is that there is no way to see nearby Wayspots, period

I usually try to stay as positive as possible, but this is…

I have noticed when playing pogo:

Many locations I have visited have more power spots than gyms on screen when playing pogo. In some places the board is getting a bit over crowded (for me).

This makes me think that there is a big future planned for power spots.

Would it be good if you could see nearby POIs before you spend time submitting? Definitely.

Today when I went to submit I also came across this.

I had been wondering whether some of the WFH businesses imported as Power Spots I had reported had gone away, as one for sure has not been seen for a while, but there it was, as a red pin.

And down there are are two pins for the same business when my neighbour moved from one side of the road to the other. He now lives in another town. Neither pin have made an appearance in-game yet but I guess it’s still possible.

It’s frustrating that there’s no way for me to report these as invalid locations for that reason regardless of the fact reporting those that have appeared via the Pogo app so far seems to have no effect. Has anyone tried using Help Chat to report a Power Spot?

Yes. October 8 I received response that I would see action “soon.”

I have not.

What the h** is a powerspot?

It is a new type of game location in Pokemon Go.

Be glad if you don’t know
They don’t exactly tend to meet wayfarer criteria

Oh the ones with pink arenas? Everything that never should come to a game.
A general pitstop
A lawyer
A nail studio

That’s close to me :grinning:

Yeah, and the ones from the wayfarer app are still not synced but in the duplicates

Oh! have you confirmed that you have seen some of these powerspots that were imports in the duplicate row on reviews?

edit: nevermind. i misread.

I have and they replied saying that they have escalated the report to concerned team. It took over a month for the location to be finally removed.

Thanks for your replies Mystogan5097 & Gendgi.
I’ve submitted a removal request via the Report Location form (Request modification or removal of a PokéStop or Gym – Pokémon GO) for the two Power Spot pins down the road. Lets see what happens.

You shouldn’t have said anything. I just checked and my Lightship Dev account has been disabled. Now there really is no way for me to view all Wayspots. Thanks again Niantic
