False duplicate rejections

How does wayfarer deal with reviewers falsely marking duplicate? I have checked on the ingress intel map, and the stop I am submitting is not in the map, but every time I submit a wayspot it is denied as a duplicate.

Is this how the nomination process works? I feel no motivation to get involved in this community or contribute with waystops based on my interactions with wayfarer and their support team.

It may not be on a map, but it may already be a wayspot.

Until recently (amusingly, just in time to stop taking nominations), Ingress did not have the ability to show existing wayspots that were in the database but not portals. PoGo had that feature for a long time.

If you share more info, some us who also use lightship can check to see if it really is a dupe, just not visible in Ingress.

Thanks this is the submission in question.

This is an existing portal Playground

You can check for Wayspots that already exist as exclamation points in the nomination map screen if you are submitting on location.

Because it’s a duplicate of this.

In that same cell (which is the defiended area that populates PoI in Pokémon Go) there is also…

So only one of those 3 spots will appear

So because another wayspot has part of what could be a separate wayspot in the picture the other one doesn’t count? The welcome sign is a memorial sign to a community leader who helped found the park and playground, seems quite different to me than the playground itself.

There is literally one called Playground that is for the playground. Yours is a duplicate of that. A sign for a playground meets no criteria on its own. It only exists to be the visual or physical anchor point for the actual playground which meets the criteria for being a great place to socialize and exercise.

I appreciate the people who responded in good faith. I have really tried to approach wayfarer submissions with good faith, despite the overwhelming torrent of negativity from people who have tried to use it, but the system is at best, not friendly to the user. Unfortunately the haters are right

I know Wayfarer is confusing and I wish it was a lot easier. But I have a question for you. If you wanted to learn something new, maybe a sport or some new skill, where would you turn to learn it? Let’s say golf… Would you ask your friends who have never played golf or have only played Putt Putt how golf works or how to improve your swing?

I don’t think you would. I think you might start hanging out at the golf course, maybe take a few lessons, watch golfing videos on YouTube, maybe read a book or two. This is the place to hang out to learn from experienced (maybe even pro level) Wayfinders. The average game player has no idea how Wayfarer really works. We have most of the answers. We are happy to share those with anyone who really wants to learn. But, unfortunately, Wayfarer is a skill based endeavor. It is not something you can just randomly do and excel at. I hope that changes some day, but that is the reality right now.

Here is another good faith answer. The “Haters” are usually around because they don’t understand in depth how the system works and get frustrated and give up.
In this case, the POI you are trying to nominate is already in the system. When you went to do the nomination, you may not have seen it in game. But it’s there. So the duplicate designation was correct.

Here is the map from IITC (soon to be not as relevant) As you can see the cell with the “Funk-ee Town” sign has 3 POI’s located on it. With the current rules, only one POI will be visible in Pokémon Go. Other Niantic Spatial/Scopley games have different inclusion criteria.

Hopefully this helps you with further nominations, and if you have any questions. Please reach out. I like to help folks with this kind of stuff.

Best,

Jamal

Lmao sure buddy

Thanks this is super helpful! Where can I find this map or the new one? I downloaded Ingress thinking that provided the full map including wayspots not appearing in pogo or other games but it seems like the information is intentionally hidden from anyone trying to learn about it.

Really wish this system was not related to PoGo but that’s a problem for another thread I guess.

this map is iitc, but it is useless for pogo without the pogotools overlay. you can google those things. i can’t give you a direct link to them because installing a link like that has potential to do harm, so is against forum rules. i have been told by staff that i am allowed to give a screenshot so i point people in the right direction, though. this will have a readme that will tell you what to do

i have been so thrilled that staff has been allowing us to talk about S2 cells and how Pokemon Go uses them on this forum. i think it really helps ease frustration for newer reviewers. i didn’t dump all this on you in my original response because Jamal said i overwhelm folks in one of his podcasts.

this is a great article about how pokemon go uses S2 cells:
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/

the reason that Jamal said “soon to be not relevant” is that scopely is taking pokemon go and wayfarer, but not ingress. so ingress will not be adding new wayspots. in fact, that function is now a manual one, and i have not seen a portal/pokestop/wayspot added to iitc yet that was approved Thursday. we are hoping for a new map from scopely, and there are topics here about that.

oh! and because i have been misquoted, i want to be clear that this knowledge of S2 cells is to be used to know where to look for something that will be able to be a stop or gym in pokemon go. NEVER put a pin in a free cell if the object isn’t actually there. that can lead to punishment for abuse, and is what some of those wayfarer haters have turned out to be doing.

did you see my comment about checking for existing wayspots on the nomination map screen?

this only works when you are right at the location, but is more information than can be seen on the ingress map, or that iitc version of it.

Hey, maybe you’re having a hard time in the Wayfarer community because you’re flippant to people trying to help you.
