So I sent in this memorial plaque I encountered while out with a friend and it got rejected, so I appealed it.
And the appeal rejection I got is baffling.
“The Wayspot nomination in question is a insert Wayspot title here which is an ineligible location/object under Wayspot rejection criteria.”
That literally explains nothing.
I don’t see anything wrong with this submission. It’s a memorial plaque for an important local person, located next to a tree they planted in his honor. Bemelen eert overleden dorpsicoon Pierre Pittie met amberboom | De Limburger https://share.google/yyWuh5N8kgRwf7QKn
This person was so important to the village that the local TV station made an entire documentary about him: Limburg Doc: Bewakers van Bemelen - L1 Limburg Doc: Bewakers van Bemelen - L1
I would like to see this appeal decision overturned or at the very least clarified more than the nothing answer I got.
I take these in the same way as memorial benches where the majority are eneligible unless it is for someone prominent.
You do seem to make a good argument for that here but did you include that in your original nomination. It is down to you as the nominator to show this proof.
Please screengrab the full nomination and post here, people will be happy to advise if changes are required if you decide to re-submit.
You can see the exact same link in the appeal notes. But you’re missing the point. What has me most riled up is this complete nonsensical answer from the appeals team that explains NOTHING.
It’s an hour’s drive away. I’m not driving back there just to take some new pictures and resubmit it when Niantic can just fix their mistake and approve the appeal.
I think the reason for the unhelpful rejection text is that some people cheat and the more assistance you give to cheaters, the easier for them to cheat. This catches innocent people as well.
(It’s similar (at a very different scale) to community groups who have their bank accounts closed without explanation or notice, because you can’t warn money-launderers and drug lords what you think they’ve done wrong and that you are going to remove their access to the money.)
With wayfarer, if you tell cheats precisely what mistake they made, it is easier for them to amend and retry, even though the actual POI should not be a wayspot.
Well, they’ve fixed their mistake, but as per usual, there’s zero acknowledgement of wrongdoing on Niantic’s part and zero explanation of what went wrong and how they’ll prevent it from happening again in the future.
