I’d have to disagree. Can I ask you why you came to that conclusion? I would like to understand and possibly explain why they are actually very acceptable with proven route links.
I had Emily accept one of mine in 10 mins. 10 Mins!!! Has to be a record. This was at the very start.
If you look at the criteria of Niantic, they should have direction, a name and an accompanying site, which is completely the case, and they are a fantastic way of exploring and exercising!
Indeed.
It’s user submitted so I would rather have a direct link to a trails map from the local government entity that confirms it or web page
Yes!! Stickers that last a decade aren’t “just stickers”
Yet the guidance for acceptable trails uses Public Footpath markers
To be honest, is that not what a trail is? There might be cases where there’s not an established name for the trail but it’s public dedicated land to operate as such.
I don’t know if this will help, but I would drop the mention that it’s one of 53. It could make the one being nominated look even less unique.
As a gamer, I’d hate all having the same opening words. In Comms we see the first 38 characters. "Millstone to Millstones Route Marker - " is 40 characters. But I don’t think people rated based on that.
They’re only stickers if they’re from the Stique region. Otherwise they’re just flexible self-adhesive vinyl discs
Agree with your sentiment though, just because a marker is like this, it shouldn’t be any less valid. The vinyl discs are designed to last a long time even in all the elements that our fine British weather can throw at them. They’re also easier for authorities to place in some cases, as there’s not always a nice wooden surface for the other kind of disc shaped markers to be nailed into.
Those disc shaped markers dont always last as long as the stickers either because they get brittle and then shatter. Of all the ruined trail markers around me, not one of them is a “sticker”
That’s tricky if you have a situation where you might get someone in the photo.
If you need to submit at the location
I would suggest take the photos quickly check and crop if necessary.
Submit with minimum text - if you are walking a trail, you can have some brief info ready to go and cut and paste. And every now and then quickly check contributions page to put on hold.
I appreciate that every minute spent doing this with any child in tow is going to get “why are we waiting again looks” but you can try. If you can do the whole nomination later it would be better.
In an ideal world it would be good as part of the edit in contributions page we had some basic tools to edit a photo….not replace it, but simple crop and basic adjustments to make it brighter.
Oh that would be fantastic!! It would also solve a lot of problems like stray thumbs, too much sun, or other things that you just don’t notice at the time
I can dream
All I did was do the pictures . I was able to submit back at the house which is just in the village there that I was visiting. I’m going to probably have to hustle it back up the hill and do some sort of 360 photos. Still, i won’t be able to attach the GPS/location. Appreciate the tips
I’m going to have to put that in my supportive information.
What would you suggest? I’ve had many long winded titles go through. I was to think that the Ingress chaps had a thing about detailed unique titles. .
There are some apps that will create a picture to show the GPS location in a corner, that would be suitable for the supporting picture. My guess is that most reviewers seeing that will accept the location.
I use one called GPSmap camera
I will give that a go Ty. Until recently I was able to still use StreetView to publish 360 photos, but you had to do it there and then. There was a slightly work around in the app.
I’d use the unique thing, like
Compton Wynyates
Tysoe Windmill North
Old Cattle House
Routes R41 to Emmer Green
Or maybe start with an abbreviation for the trail (defining the abbreviation early in the description)
CW Compton Wynyates
M2M Tysoe Windmill Area
PW Old Cattle House
R41 to Emmer Green
Did the trail markers have some other features than a coloured arrow? I find that regular trail markers with just an arrow don’t get accepted by the AI but if there’s something else like a QR code or a special sign with a logo or name of the trail or something like that it is a certain auto accept.
