Its in a tesco superstore (one of those ones that have other shops in it). In fact its one i go to regulalry, but never past the post office bit, flund it on a twitter page i follow on twitter on the off chance they show me cool things to submit lol
Oooh… There is going to be a stramash in Maryhill tonight!
I have submitted quite a lot of foot paths and post boxes keeping keep getting them refused but they are legit and I put a lot of effort into them and yet the same post boxes and signs somewhere else get refused here’s 3 examples
I think you may have forgotten to include your examples
One of them is a Victoria one that was classed as temporary it’s concreted into the ground for a start
The rejection reasons for these seem to be mostly appropriate, the more ornate postbox looks interesting and might be eligible but we’d have to see the full submission.
Now that you have attached those, the rejection reasons make sense for the postboxes (I’ll leave the footpaths for their own thread as we are just sticking to red things here).
If you check the start of this thread, you’ll see some thoughts on Queen Elizabeth II postboxes.
For the Queen Victoria one, please provide the full nomination.
Well it’s a really early one located in Great Yarmouth it’s called a Penfold (1866) This hexagonal model (named after its designer) was handsome and practical but too expensive to produce. It was discontinued in 1879 so had a very short life here’s a picture of another one and if you look at the one i posted it has the up to date collection time sheet inserted to the front only active post boxes can display them
Generally Penfold’s pass without problem - to guess why it didn’t the text of your submission and both photos would help.
ERII are generally rejected (with very few exceptions) GIV/V are normally accepted but some people do consider them too commonplace.
The other one on the poll is Lamp box examples in link and also is displaying the collection card with times in it proving its active
Your’s was too modern - ERII are not generally acceptable
So are you not King Charles ones then as I did see one in the examples
The King Charles III one was mentioned as it was questioned whether we would get any at all.
Not to say those would be eligible. If he has a very short reign like King Edward, they may eventually be eligible as they will be rare.
Do you think a CIIIR post box might be eligible if it’s one of the first? So, the first in a county perhaps, backed up by some citation.
Or should we all just wait for WVR?
For the queen elizabeth ones, they wont pass, too common, too recent etc
That victoria one, you should resubmit with much, much better info. Those are extremely good to submit but you need to add better than “1800 post box”
There were originally 300ish Penfold boxes. I think there’s around 150 originals left and 100 replicas.
The originals were manufactured by Cochrane Grove & co of Dudley. The replicas were made in 1988 by Machan Engineering, Stirlingshire.
It often says either Cochrane or Machan on the plinth although not always.
All of the Penfolds in Scotland are replicas.
Original in Ilkley
Replica in Sheffield
It’s entirely up to you if you think a replica is worthy of being added to the map since obviously their age and history doesn’t come into play.
Although if a Tesco with no picture is absolutely fine what difference does 110 years make…
Good Luck
