Unable to Change Primary Photo in Pokémon Go

I see. Thank you.

To be honest the bin has been bothering me for 8 years so I I’d take any change at the moment

if you send friends gifts, they can like the photo from that without having to go there. just be sure to let them know first. i usually try to get a couple more likes than the minimum i need, just to be sure.

Thanks.

I’ll attempt to annoy some of the locals into doing something more than catching and raiding… Again.

Happy to add you and help with gifts for this sort of thing? I get it, locals dont always understand.

So my understanding from when I first complained of this issue (as explained by @seaprincess at the time, IIRC) is that when the database transitioned from Ingress to Lightship, the upvotes at that time were captured and stored in the then new database.

After encountering this issue where the upvotes don’t tally to explain the result, I’ve come to the realisation that the number of upvotes displayed on Ingress at present does not necessarily reflect those that were captured at the time Lightship became the principal database. This is because some users who play both and care about the wayspot quality could have removed upvotes from an older image to apply to an updated image that better reflects the wayspot or is simply superior quality due to the vast improvements in mobile photography from the potato VGA images still seen on some wayspots

I still come across this regularly and it’s annoying that those upvotes haven’t been rendered void for PoGo. The best course of action may be to report the older image for removal, but that doesn’t help where the image doesn’t meet removal criteria and it really should be better dealt with (the team should be able and willing to wipe upvotes on images over a certain age IMO) :woman_facepalming:t2:

The username is only shown in the app it was uploaded from. Have you checked Ingress?

Yeah, that’s almost verbatim what i DM’d Hank earlier.

Yeah, I’ve never played Ingress, so…

Fair enough. It’s not really important, but that’s why you’re not seeing usernames on some photos, anyway :woman_shrugging:t2:

Yes, I realize that, especially since PoGo has isn’t has old as Ingress. The PoGo 8 year anniversary will be in a few months.

Most of the photos I see as the mains in PoGo are older than 8 years, so it makes sense that they were uploaded via Ingress. Most of the stops/gyms in question also have been in PoGo since it launched, and most I assume came from the Ingress database.

Thank you

I put my code in my profile when the forum started in case I wasn’t allowed to post it.
It’s very, very, very important that we only discuss Wayfarer.

Oops … Cycling while gifting…sent the wrong one :face_with_peeking_eye:

I was able to pester a couple of friends to up vote the “new” picture for the tennis club and, as of sync time today, it is now showing as the main photo in Pokémon Go. It’s also showing as the main photo within wayfarer itself.

Gonna see if I can pester them to up vote the other photos on wayspots where this issue has occurred.

Nice recap!

Trivia: Another reason someone might remove their old upvote on a picture in Ingress: Niantic changed the way they crop pictures. So a picture that may have been great at first, now has its head chopped off (or some other bad cropping) in Ingress Prime. Sometimes I can make a portal look a lot better by removing a 7-year-old vote, and liking one that matches the current crop better.

I am having the same problem, million year old photo won’t go away got a new photo with the most likes but still hasn’t changed even tried editing the description to get it to sync but also didn’t work

I’m currently having this problem, and I know for a fact it has nothing to do with Ingress thumbs transferring over in the background

Mine from above finally changed after years of not moving.

Send gifts for upvotes.

Have to disagree.

I uploaded a new photo back in October for a nearby Wayspot that’s a gym in PoGo, it was approved, and once approved, I gave it an upvote in PoGo. It did for awhile show my photo as the main photo, but the image changed back to the original submitted photo earlier this year, around March. I noticed that the original photo now has 1 upvote as well in PoGo, so I do think that upvotes from Ingress are also being taken into account. This is pretty much what has been agreed upon in this topic.

The stop I’m talking about was put into the game after the conversion and has zero thumbs in Ingress… So I don’t know how you could disagree with me.

I never said votes from Ingress weren’t taken into account, I was saying the problem may be deeper than “unaccounted-for thumbs.”

I disagree because the Wayspot I’m talking about was imported from Ingress into PoGo, not new Wayspots created after Lightship was launched. You also say that your “know for a fact” that Ingress upvotes are not the problem, which I don’t know how you can “know for a fact” when you aren’t a Niantic employee.

Nothing has ben confirmed by Niantic in regards to this issue, so there are no known facts currently. This issue is only assumed, as what @thenamelesskath and @seaprincesshnb previously noted.

Please be careful with your wording, as misinformation is already rampant in our society today.

No, I know for a fact that ingress thumbs aren’t the problem with the Wayspot I was talking about.

I never said that I “know for a fact” that Ingress upvotes are not the problem in general. I never once referred to anything to do with your Wayspot, I was only contributing the experience I am having with mine as it’s related.

Be careful making assumptions about what people are saying.
