Request to change name of location denied and appeal denied

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: The Royal Oak

  • Location (lat/lon): 43.858878,-78.944120

  • City: Whitby, ON

  • Country: Canada

  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any):

I work near this pub, and they recently changed ownership, which has resulted in new branding and a new name. I submitted a request to change the name, and uploaded a new photo of the the signage. The photo is still sitting in queue, but Niantic denied, and re-denied my appeal that it should be changed.

I’m a little worried to submit changes when I see them now because the note states that trying to repurpose a stop is a violation of their policy.

There must be a bit of a disconnect, as I successfully submitted a name change and photo change for the mural on the patio.

Is there anything further I can do? Or is this the final say/word?

Hi @realmmeira
Welcome to the forum :hugs:
I’ve moved your topic to Nomination Support because the category Wayspot Appeals is for appealing rejected removal requests or to ask for reinstating removed wayspots.

Okay, great! Thank you so much  I don’t use forums too much, so I get a little overwhelmed finding where I need to post

This issue is confusing.

Niantic allow us to change the name and picture of a mural.

They don’t allow us to change the name and picture of pubs, they call it repurposing and threaten to ban us for it.

I do not know why murals are fine to be repurposed to other murals, but pubs changing their name is a bannable offense!

The way Niantic would like us to handle a pub changing its name is to ask them to delete the waypoint and then resubmit the newly named building again. The alternative is to do nothing, because it can cause issues especially if said pub is a gym in Go (Im sure can also affect other games to delete and reinstate things)

So yes this issue is frustrating. The advice is unless its a mural, do not try to change the name etc via edits. If you must change it, you need to delete it and re add the new version later

Thank you so much for clarifying this for me! I think I will just leave it alone. Thanks so much
