Unique store rejected by AI

Hey everyone!
I was wondering why this local shop was rejected by the automated process. It is a truly charming and unique second hand store with a coffee corner where people meet and I tried to mention that in the description so it is probably for a different reason. I only got the generic it did not meet the criteria reason so that doesnt give me any help. Any thoughts ?

Google translated description:
Sneuphal
The Sneuphal thrift store in Stiens. A cozy shop with a wide range of second-hand gems, including (children’s) clothing, books, toys, records and CDs, antique decorations, furniture, and other fun trinkets.

This local second-hand shop, located in the former cultural center building “de oude Skalm,” which had been vacant for a while, has breathed new life into the location. It is always busy, and many people gather here to have a friendly chat, for example in the coffee corner, or to simply browse. It is a nice place to meet and has a unique and cozy atmosphere, as can be seen in the window display. Easily accessible via a small pedestrian square.

The picture looks simply like a window display for a shop, which would be difficult for the ML system to interpret as a former cultural centre with a coffee corner.

You would likely to better with either the building itself or the coffee corner. You might even have two separately eligible wayspots.

Hey! Thanks for the response! Im afraid that wont work because the coffeecorner is literally just a table with chairs and a coffeemachine inside the shop itself. The rest of the building is just pretty much empty except for the thriftstore and another room where workshops are held occassionally. So I really just wanted to nominate the thriftshop itself also because it is quite wellknown and loved by the local community and it had the cutest window display/sign for the shop which I wanted to nominate. There is also a hand written ugly cardboard sign that also says the name of the shop but Im sure that will get immediatly rejected as well so this is what I have to work with I think.

I think the coffee corner could still be eligible if people do socialise there.

I would submit the building itself, describing the current use, then add that as an additional photo once the wayspot is live. After submitting the people, you could try the coffee corner - no harm, no foul.

I can’t promise how appeals reviewers will see this, but I like this. You can appeal an “automated process” rejection just like any other, and humans will consider it. You get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before you can use it again.

I also like the suggestion of trying a main photo that centers more on the building to give more context about what you are submitting in a resubmit. Sometimes is it trial and error to find something that the machine learning model understands might be eligible.

Thank you, I have appealed and explained my case once again. The only difficult part is that I dont know why it was rejected in the first place. Is a local shop no longer eligible? Is the picture not suitable? I am kind of in the dark and that’s why it is so difficult. I hope a human will take a look at it and either approve or at least tell mee more as to why it isnt accepted but thanks for thinking along!

A “local shop” is not eligible just for being a local shop. Eligibility is Social, Exercise, Exploration and it is up to the submitter to show that the wayspot submission meets one of these key elements.

Im a little confused about the coffee corner because we also have supermarket chains that also have a table with chairs and a coffee machine for customers. Does that also make an eligible POI? Because this is pretty much the same thing

Potentially. Supermarkets can have eligible POI within them. There is no categorical “yes” or “no” that can be applied to this.

The “automated process” is a machine learning model that we don’t exactly know what is looking for. I wish I could give you more details than that, but if we knew exactly what it is checking, then it would be too easy to abuse. My guess is that there have not been a lot of store windows that have been found to meet crtieria, so it rejected this.

Businesses in general are very difficult to get accepted, as “Generic business” is a rejection reason. I will guess that your appeal rejection said something about them being unable to verify it being a culturally or historically significant hot-spot or something like that. Any information that you can provide in the appeal (or a resubmit) that shows this is a unique place for exploration and/or being social will help your case.

It is very hard to get “local shop” that is not food, drink or sport oriented establishment to get pass for thorough inspection.

Here is example of latest reply I got from appeal of local Gift shop that works with municipality program and is listed as tourist attraction on municipality website:

…as the current context does not sufficiently demonstrate how this Gift shop serves as a hyperlocal hangout or cultural hotspot significant to your community.

So if and when you appeal the AI response, you need to show or prove the business’s importance to the local community.

Thank you! I will definitely try that as well!

For future reference/other wayfarers who run into similar issues this is what I got back:
Thanks for the appeal, Wayfinder! We are unable to verify as per the nomination context how this business is a locally longstanding/hyperlocal hangout/cultural hotspot significant to your community. We suggest that you add more information explaining why this business is important for the local community in a new nomination. This can greatly increase the odds of this nomination getting approved. We recommend you review the content guidelines before submitting your next Wayspot contribution: Content Guidelines — Wayfarer Help Center

The submission lacks originality or historical and cultural significance
