Hello everyone,
I need some help here, my little daughter is asking for a Pokéstop here and I can’t make it happen, I already tried a couple of times to nominate this coffee shop without success. I’d appreciate to know what I’m doing wrong and what do I need to improve.
In the screenshots, the text is in Portuguese, but I’ll write it in English to make it easier.
Description:
Homemade pastries with typical Portuguese dishes in a cozy, welcoming and, above all, family atmosphere.
Supplemental Information:
In addition to the place being quite pleasant, where there is the possibility of interaction, there are no poke stops nearby and there are several trainers nearby.
Hey,
First, being important as a Pokestop is not part of the acceptance criteria. I would recommend to not write anything about the games in any text field (this alone can be reason for rejection).
For cafés, there are 2 possible ways to meet criteria:
-Exploration: The cafe has something very unique to learn about or see
-Sociailising: The café is a popular place where locals would invite their guests for example, where live would happen. It would mean that cafe A where some people just get a drink would not be acceptable, Café B where people would flock to, have special dishes or even events happen would can fulfill this criteria
You would need to show to reviewers (and have it believable) that one of these two possibilities applies and is enough to overcome Generic Business rejection criteria
Forgot to add a detail that might be helpful: You can add Weblinks as proof in the supporting information field only. If there is an article online for example that supports you showing it to reviewers, you can use that
As far as whether to resubmit or appeal, I usually try submitting a few times before I use an appeal. You get two appeals, each on a 20 day timer before you can use them again.
Did a deep research and found some new info.
What do you think about this?
Title
Sabores Magnólia Traditional Portuguese Café
Description
Sabores Magnólia offers authentic homemade Portuguese pastries and dishes in a cozy, family-friendly atmosphere. Known for its delectable pastel de nata and hearty francesinha, this café has become a local favorite for its warm ambiance and traditional flavors. The charming interior, adorned with azulejo tiles, provides a glimpse into Portugal’s rich cultural heritage.
Supplemental Information
Established in 2010, Sabores Magnólia has become a cornerstone of the Guifões community in Matosinhos. It regularly hosts local art exhibitions and live fado music nights, fostering cultural appreciation. The café’s spacious outdoor seating area, shaded by old magnolia trees, provides a pleasant space for locals to gather and socialize.
Sabores Magnólia is renowned for its commitment to using locally-sourced ingredients, supporting regional producers. Their seasonal menu highlights traditional Portuguese cuisine, offering visitors an authentic taste of Porto’s culinary traditions. The café also conducts monthly cooking workshops, teaching patrons how to prepare classic Portuguese dishes.
The building itself, dating back to the early 20th century, has been carefully restored to preserve its original architectural features, making it a point of interest for those appreciating local history and architecture.
This is much better imo. I would move the information about art exhibitions, live fado music nights, shaded outdoor seating, locally-sourced ingredients, and cooking workshops to the description. I don’t count on reviewers reading all the way through my supporting information when it is so easy for them to just reject for “generic business” when they see a business. I try to get everything interesting about the place into the description and use the supporting just to say which criteria I feel it meets and point out any proof of what I have said in the supporting.
I’m concerned regarding the number of characters in each part.
The description can have máx 350 characters and supplemental 600 characters, is it correct?

When I edit my nomination from my contributions page - which is what I prefer to do, submit with minimal text but then edit - I see these numbers: title 128, description 512, supporting 3000
I like what you have posted here, and assume you will use the links you mentioned earlier in the supporting. I think @CarolFigueiraRS could help with the wording in Portuguese if you need that.
Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate your efforts in helping me!
I will send another nomination and see if I can get it this time.
@kawin240 , I’m Brazilian living in Portugal since 2018, we do have a few differences between Brazilian and European Portuguese, but it’s something that doesn’t block understanding.
This cafe sounda fantastic, so I’m sure you can get it approved soon.
Reviewers can be very silly sometimes about businesses, but this sounds like an ideal place for a waypoint, since it helps people socialise and also explore both the cusine and the art exhibitions
Your description and support made it more prodigious than other cafes.
If I read that I would want to visit although with coffee, pastry and the chance to pretentiously flaneur around I may be the target clientele.
Reviewers accepted these and I would say yours is better than mine so if they don’t endorse it they need to be sent to McDonalds and made to eat oleaginous chips and stare forlornly out the window as they ponder the choices they have made.
Well, I’m doing my best to get ‘proof’ that the fado nights, workshops and exhibitions happened.
My daughter and I went to the bakery to check the information and ask when it would happen again and unfortunately, there is no forecast for a new art exhibition (the last one was held in April showing Portuguese tiles from different regions).
The owner was extremely nice to me (especially since today is Sunday) and even gave me a picture of the flyer from the last fado night that took place and also said that the next one should happen in October.
As for the workshops, she told me that they happen every Saturday morning, related to Portuguese recipes.
Offtopic (kinda): This journey to create the pokestop has been an interesting chapter in family life with my two daughters, we are enjoying every step we take together.
Did they gave you a digital image instead of a physical flyer?
I’ve been searching for information about this and was impossible to find anything even when this business is more or less “know” in the area with +600 reviews in Google Maps. Could you provide any proof of those workshops as they happen every Saturday morning?
