I want more poke stops in my community, but most of them get rejected because I live in a gated community. The only one I got was the rock in front of the gate with the sign ingraved in it. Other things such as a street sign, mailbox, and even a water well on a trail have all been rejected, what would you guys nominate in this scenarios? I’m almost tempted to make sum graffiti to get a stop, but unfortunately it’s not allowed.
Welcome to the forum @pdlt99
Nominations in gated communities are allowed, but the things you’ve attempted to nominate are not particularly eligible. Nominations need to be a great place to socialise, exercise or explore. Generic street signs and mailboxes don’t meet these criteria.
Are there any little free libraries (that aren’t on private residential property)? Any parks? Any playgrounds?
You may wish to screengrab and post the nominations and someone will advise what is acceptable. IMO: The Street sign and Mailbox definately sound ineligeble but without seeing more details nobody can be certain.
You may also want to confirm the area and members may take a look round on google maps and make suggestions.
Good luck.
None of these to me meet the criteria of being a great place to be social/exercise/explore. Places inside gated communities are allowed, but they must meet criteria. A street sign is just infrastructure, same with a mailbox, and we really would need to see what the water well looks like to know if it may be eligible. The trail may be eligible as a great place to get some exercise, and may also encourage exploration.
Most things I see get nominated inside gated communities are parks and playgrounds, clubhouses, swimming pools, fitness centers, just to name a few. However, gated communities may be harder if the developer of the community didn’t design it with many amenities for residents in mind, and unfortunately, that is the case with some.
I myself live in an older apartment building, and we have no extra amenities, just basic things like laundry rooms, off-street parking, and a few garages that can be rented out. It’d be nice to have a small picnic area or dog park outside, as there is some room for one, but I doubt that my rental agency wants to even bother with one of those, and none of the other apartment buildings in the neighborhood have anything that can be nominated either. Therefore, I do have to get out and explore, which is one of the points of the games, to play them most times.
First read the four articles linked below. In addition, the criteria clarification collection describes Wayspot in gated communities in the “Private Residences, Farmland & K-12” section. Many reviewers are aware of this criteria.
Then read the five guideline articles linked below.
If you have any questions, please ask us. The important eligibility required for a Wayspot is “what is the purpose of going there?” and “why is the location there?”. They must meet one of the three criteria of exploration, exercise, or social, as indicated in the eligibility criteria. It is important to have a reason to go there even if there is no Wayspot/Pokéstop. Next is whether the location is approved by Niantic for installation. If you read with that in mind, you will understand a little more.
