I see hundreds of community entrance signs accepted in games
However, our rural community neighborhood sign has been rejected twice
I Have reviewed over 800 suggestions I have seen many come across the review board.
I guess I truly don’t understand why I have been accepting them if they should be rejected
These community signs may not mean anything to someone 200 miles away reviewing someone’s neighborhood but to folks in these communities it means a lot.
We even have a parking lot in front of the sign so people can meet to go on hikes, meet greet, walk their pets explore the nature
It becomes very discouraging.
The last photo is the satellite view where you plainly see the parking lot. I’m just puzzled with what to do with this one.
I simply want a poll of who feels community signs are PokéStop worthy
These kinds of signs have been discussed plenty within the wayfarer community, and the general consensus is that they typically don’t meet the eligibility criteria, as they’re not a great place to exercise, a great place to socialise, or a great place to explore. They’re just generic signs telling you where you are.
That may not apply to all such signs (some can be noteworthy beyond just being a sign), but it does apply to the majority of them.
So basically, even though this community sign has a parking lot specifically for that area and the park (where you can socialize and explore ) adjacent to the sign, most reviewers have just hit no no no no and not actually reviewed the nomination
I know when I review a stop I do take time to look at the satellite view. Also to assure maybe I didn’t miss anything.
Good to know, I will reject these moving forward. You can tell most folks didn’t grow up in the 80s or 90s on here as the entrance to your community was always the meeting spot for riding bicycles going on walks playing games and “the base.”
Understood since there’s not a sign for the park just a parking lot in front of it. I could see it being rejected. Also, I think I’m just gonna give this one up at this point.
I just know this entrance is more appealing than the 20 I may drive by every day
I made note of the parking lot because the first review was rejected as not a safe place. And my favorite, not permanent when it clearly stands 5 feet tall made of wood and brick
It’s sad the time I take and put into reviewing somebody else’s post to know that things really aren’t being looked at by some eyes
Truly appreciate your feedback!
Thanks for bringing your case and the wider question to the community. @hankwolfman has covered the basic issue when assessing this type of submission. There is no simple rule that says neighbourhood entrance sign equals accept or equals reject.
Like all submissions each submission has to make the case as to why it meets criteria.
As submitter you need to have that in mind as you present your case , when you take the photos, craft the description and make all the points a reviewer will need to know, and as far as possible prove facts with links.
The reviewer needs to do the same.
Is this specific sign acceptable? And then address each question in turn.
I appreciate you are frustrated to have this rejection. It doesn’t mean that the reviewers didn’t stop to consider what you presented. They just came to a different conclusion than you wanted them to.
There is an advantage to this location in that streetview is up to date, a month old. So anything you point out is easy to verify.
A clear parking area. As someone not from your area it looks as though the parking is provided as it is a gated community so anyone going further needs to go on foot? Is that correct?
I can only guess why reviewers chose to reject the way they did. I think some chose to reject under the category permanent and not distinct. This is confusingly translated in the reasons for rejection by leaving out the not distinct part which many choose when they feel something is standard. I think Others may have picked the access question as the area around the looks like a mulched area that you are not meant to go on.
I can see from streetview there is a bench and you describe it as a place to picnic etc. so you might also be sending mixed messages to the reviewers. You submitted a sign and then talk about the wider area. If this is a social space where people stay at and socialise - a park type space - then present your case with that focus and less emphasis on the sign. It will be difficult to prove - perhaps there is a Facebook group or the like where you can point to these sort of events?
Are there any signs directing people to the trails? Or better still trail starting points?
The entrance gates look artistic, but I can’t tell if there is a safe place to stand.
You mention a range of other facilities community has a community centre and dog park. Have these been submitted. These are good candidates .
If you want help then we will gladly help revise your submissions. @BlameJamal this is your neck of the woods.
Hi, thanks for your response. Yes, this is a gated community at night. However, my understanding according to the rules, gated communities are still eligible. The gate is open during most days and on the weekends for public access as homes are for sale in this area. The area in front of the gate including the parking lot is public access 24x7
I have already nominated the community gazebo, the community center, the lakes beach area and part of the trail. Most of the trail Including the Waterfall was rejected because the reviewers didn’t like the green trail markers . I assume because it’s not distinct enough or interesting, yet a wooden post with .5 miles on it is.
I appreciate the feedback, though this will help me moving forward on all those community signs that I see and have been reviewing with a yes. Maybe all the new no”s will give me more agreements That align with others.
I think I will be stepping back a bit for nominations, though to be honest.
I think consensus is
community entrance signs are generally not worthy of a nomination.
When speaking on your nomination (any nomination) don’t elaborate on anything but that nomination it’s just confusing
You folks are so helpful thanks again! I will be talking this one up as a big L and leaving it alone
I’m the wrong person to ask on this one. I love these signs and I nominate OFTEN and they get approved on the regular. Now I will not share them on this forum because “people like to people” and get nosey and try and report and remove things from the game.
@Sweetbhc Nebo is a little farther from Charlotte than I normally travel, but if you want to reach out I can share my strategies for this topic.
Have you seen any accepted ones actually be removed? You know I am a hater, but the only one I have ever seen get removed is the recent example where the sign was within a homeowner’s property line: Unqualified subdivision sign in prp front yard - #13 by NianticLC
I was thinking when we went through the challenge that maybe some of them would go away, but they didn’t.
I know folks say sometimes “can you put hands on it” since some games you must walk completely to it. But I nominated this in the Pokémon Go game where it says nominate a new PokéStop. That’s what I was nominating. You can spend these stops from halfway down the street
I don’t play any of the other games and I know that’s probably where two of my stops that were excepted went to. It’s just very difficult when you’re in a rural area with very few things that are “tangible “to other people.
I love them too, especially since I’m a 60s baby and everything we did had to be out of the house. We always met up on the corners of the neighborhoods which meant 7 to 10 children hanging off of these things on the weekends. So in my mind, is this a great place to socialize absolutely. I Guess I was just taking back when this one was declined since it had more than enough places for folks to hang out and deliberately with the parking lot just going to have to think better all my stops. I guess if I decide to nominate anymore.
Normally, I’m not a whiner, but when I see the sum of hundreds on some weekends, it’s just very hard to let it sink in and take it on the chin
Yes, thats because the games text is misleading you into thinking you are submiting game items. When in reality, you are not submiting Pokethings you are submiting WAYSPOTS to the Lightship/Wayfarer(whatever they want to call it) database. Then each game uses that database with its own set of game rules to determine which ones get used and which dont. So its not that people say that, thats how it has to be for wayspots since Ingress portals dont have as wide of an interaction distance like PoGo. That is why wayspots must be accurate as far as location pins go. Keep in mind while it can be frustrating spending time and effort onna submission and it not appearing in a specific game like PoGo, a HUGE number of the active wayspots/pokethings are from people who play Ingress. So while it can be disheartening to not have a submission show up in one game, just known you might be helping out people in another game that may have added wayspots you actively use in the game in the past. Keep in mind while a wayspot may not show in PoGo if an existing pokething exist in the same S2 cell(article explaining: S2 Cells), it may still be used as a power spot! I wish you the best of luck on your future submissions!
