Wayfarer Communication Channels

I am splitting a discussion from the Spatial/Scopely changes to this new topic.
There were comments about the use of Twitter but also broader comments about how news / updates are communicated. I think there is a wider topic away from the initial Twitter focus, tgat certainly doesn’t belong in that original topic, hence I have provided this topic if people would like to contribute further.
It would be helpful if the discussion stayed on the use of the different channels of communication and if some are better than others for the purposes of Wayfarer.

Inreally wish niantic (and scopely) would get off twitter and onto things like blue sky.

Mod edit: Removed off-topic and potentially inflammatory remarks.

I would like it if official channels were used.

They have my email address, this forum, and in game announcements that I have access to. I don’t have social media, so I do wish they wouldn’t use it as such a main channel

Yeah, I imagine there were some discussions internally, especially after a certain action by the owner of Twitter, but it was decided to remain there.

Maybe Niantic Spatial and/or Scopely will have the discussion again now that the ink is dry.

Wakes up and finds out that it’s still April 1st

Happy April Fools day everyone! (only kidding!).

Maybe Spatial will use their other social media outlets, such as FB, IG, YT, etc, instead of just using Twitter. The Spatial FB page recently updated their profile image to the new logo, so maybe they’re planning to be more active on the other platforms.

However, I do how Recon has a forum like Wayfarer does, as that would be super helpful to those of us that really don’t use social media much…like myself.

This platform is a Social Media of sorts, even though limited in scope.

Yes, there can be a social aspect to forums, but they have been around since before the term “social media” came around, as well as most social media sites. And yes, these forums are limited in regards to social interaction, as the focus is to be on Wayfarer, and some privileges are limited, which isn’t always a bad thing.

I don’t think it would be a hard thing for Spatial to set up, as these forums run on Discourse, and they could also use Discourse for a forums platform easily.

I think a dedicated forum is nicer than broad social media. I know there are specific interest groups available on ie facebook, but youre exposed to everything and everyone around unless you keep the account to a ridiculously narrow focus, and thats just not what I want

I much prefer a discord or forum community where you can talk about 1 topic in depth without anything else being there too.

I imagine the discussion was that it would blow over or something, or that they think twitter still has the most users so will reach the most people. But i dont rhink they took into acclu t that most people didnt delete their account when they left and that a very high amount of “users” are bots

It really differs outside of the US though. I think there are still large numbers in other countries; I remember when Twitter went dark for a bit in Brazil, and people there weren’t too happy about it. I also believe there’s a good base of users in Japan, who have no issue it seems with calling it by that other name.

Threads has its own issues, and Bluesky hasn’t fully caught on throughout the world. So, what other choice is there, when you look at all factors? It’s still Twitter as of now, even if it has its issues, too.

So really, you can’t base the habits of one part of the world on whether or not to continue using a certain service. It’s very likely that Niantic Scopley still reaches many outside of the US on Twitter, such as in Brazil and Japan.

Id say majority of europe has left twitter. They could still use threads and blue sky but when i check on blue sky pogo and niantic barely do anything.

Id also say the word “issues” for the problems with twitter is a nice way of putting it lol

***Mod edit of political references.

We shouldn’t be getting into possible political territory here on the forums, hence why I’m saying issues. Not everyone sees these issues the same, so best to be careful.
