Powerspots went offline today after their 2-3 day cycle for every affected area, regardless of the hundreds of different entities managing each waypoint.
I am wondering if it is Gigantamax crowds that got the authorities upset enough to request the removals. I am afraid we are upsetting townsfolk here with those when a huge hoard all descends on the same spots at the same time. I wish that Wayfarer staff could give you more direction on who to contact about restoring the game locations. Please let us know if anything positive happens.
To be fair, a lot of the community leaders worked really hard to the point that we had 2 groups doing Gigantamax during each of their events (and growing)… power spots being “transitory” unlike gyms puts them in VERY bad spots and it’s the ones from their third party acquisition. Hopefully something good happens and our community can still participate during events.
I don’t think there was hundreds of POs working together to have the Wayspots removed. It could be the local government, local law enforcement, the Marine Corps, any group that has authority over this area.
Do you have complete map of all area missing wayspot? That would help deciding whether military/local govt/loval authority control all of them or no. If its reported by military there is nothing you can do.
Following the property owner removal, it may be good to document any unruly incident that has happened in your community and how to prevent it from happening again.
Among previously reported owner removals, I have only seen one successful restoration and it came with working with the ones who authorized the removal request.
That said, this seem to span an entire town(?). It may be good to publish your findings here too for future reference.
Ty for this. I know you can’t say who requested this, but can you do anything to point these folks towards what organization you would need a request from could accept a request from to restore them? So that the community leaders could reach out?
One of our parks had this happen and Niantic removed a ton of wayspots at the request of the city Historical Society (who maintain only a small part of the property where wayspots were not affected) who said the area was under construction. It wasn’t.
When trying to find out who did it, someone contacted the county park superintendent who is the maintaining authority and asked if they had a problem/requested removal and they were baffled and had no issues with the PoGo players.
When given evidence Niantic said to contact them when renovations (that weren’t happening) was completed to restore the wayspots. So while I do think this is a hard job considering the different levels of government that can be involved, Niantic seems to err on the side of “if they seem like they could be the property owners, wayspots will be removed” even if they aren’t. That might be what happened here.
Edit: Niantic told us specifically that it was a person with the Historical Society when given evidence that the superintendent didn’t request the removal. This was many years ago so maybe their policy has changed on giving out that information.
If this was affecting other US bases, I think we’d be hearing from more at those bases. Do you have any info from others at other bases that stops/gyms are being removed?
