After updating the game dozens of pokestops around me are gone for me and my wife. If you go to upload they now have the exclamation mark, so not in Pokemon Go. They are valid POIs so I don’t know if this was an unintended bug with the last update, but hundreds of stops are now gone from my area… really bad bug or design weeks before the Go Fest
Maybe give an area so folks can have a look?
Sometimes this happens when Disc Golf holes are removed from game, but the Wayspots remain, for example. But I haven’t witnessed “hundreds” being removed.
I do not have this issue, so it is not about the game update.
Sometimes this happens if the wayfarer team is taking action on an area that has had heavy wayfarer edit abuse which resulted in a greater density of Pokéstops and Gyms in that area than would otherwise ordinarily be possible.
When such areas have been reported and investigated, the team temporarily wipes the map in the affected area and then allows things to resync a few days later with the density rules correctly applied.
If you can provide the area in question, one of the staff may be able to confirm if this is what is happening.
Disregard my comment below, the issue is actually pretty bad. I’m going around town to see what’s going on and it’s like a big section just went poof.

Staff will have to help here. iitc no longer updates, so does still show a lot of portals here, but this possibly could have been a property owner or sensitive area removal.
Let us know if the issue continues past the memorial areas.
To the right of that area everything got removed too. The extent of this is a few miles, pretty sad that it removed a lot of stops where we do campfire events for Gigantamax.
Are the powerspots gone, too?
When big area got removed, its usually because owner reported it or abuse detected. But only staff can tell for sure.
This is a veteranxs cemetery near the mikitary base that has been all over the news for the class action lawsuit for chemicals in the drinking water. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the owners don’t want strangers running around here.
The power spots are not gone and not all are imported by third parties as I nominated some of them.
It’s that area and all the surrounding area to the left and right. Sonic, barbershops, hotel pools, trail markers and a lot of POI that have nothing to do with military installations or cemeteries. It’s hundreds of POI all around the area.
Is it used frequently for gigantamax? Perhaps owner reported it because too many people
If you want to appeal removed wayspot,u nd to change this post location. General discussion wont bring those wayspot back
I’m thinking like Seaprincess here and it’s likely the property owner requested removal, which isn’t uncommon for a cemetery. They may have also asked that other Wayspots and nearby Power Spots close by be removed out of respect.
Being there are veterns buried here and there is a class action lawsuit in progress for some of those resting here, I wouldn’t be surprised if this falls under the controversial sensitive location. While this isn’t any of what is mentioned, some may believe that these vets were oppressed in a way.
There is also a note to consider legal issues, since we are to play the games lawfully, and there could be some legal issues for people visiting here.
You can read the full clarification here: Cemeteries & Other Sensitive Locations
And if you’re interested, there’s a web form for property owners/managers to use to request removal of stops/gyms: Request modification or removal of a PokéStop or Gym – Pokémon GO
The area of deletion extends from the above listed deletions in a public memorial complex through the military base which includes housing sections and parks for our children. The poi’s have been available on base for at least four years.
Base management may still have requested removal, and they have all the right to do so. Even if they have been around for years, if they don’t want people playing there, they have all the right to have the Wayspots/Power Spots in the area removed.
Also, I would call this a cemetery, as it’s what’s listed on Google Maps:
It’s very close to Camp Lejeune, which is the base that has been in the news due to a class action lawsuit.
And while there is a memorial park to the east, that could still be managed by the same management of the cemetery, and they could have asked that all play locatios be removed.
Lastly, the website for Jacksonville, NC does list that for events to take place at this memorial garden to contact the Marine Corps, so it seems as though that city doesn’t manage this garden, but rather the Marine Corps does.
For information regarding reserving space for your organization or event, please contact Marine Corps Installations East, G-3 Operations & Plans Division, 910 451-1714 or by email with the subject like Lejeune Memorial Gardens [MCIEAST-MCB CAMLEJ].
I logged in to play pokemon go and all the stops and gyms are missing in my local area. They are also missing from campfire. Is there a way to determine why there would be a blanket removal of somewhere near 100 stops and gyms?
Welcome to the forum, and I understand how distressing this is. Are you in this same area?
Yes. It extends from the highway to the ocean on the military base. Which includes neighborhoods and parks that have had pokestops for at least five years.
Hi @Bigewashere
I’ve moved your posts into the other thread about this area to hold it all together.
