Wayspot alteration by title edit

Today I noticed something odd happening to the Wayspot I submitted 3 years ago. I submitted my Wayspot as follows and it was approved by the community.
title: 泉の広場 Water Tree
description: Whityうめだ 泉の広場のシンボルアート
(description to english): Whity Umeda Fountain Plaza Symbol Art

location: 34.702058,135.501885
I think many people would feel uncomfortable. You cannot find this art in aerial photos. In fact, this art is installed underground. It is located in the center of the “泉の広場” (Fountain square) atrium of the underground shopping mall “WhityUmeda,” at the center of the intersection when viewed from the ground.

However, when I checked Wayspot from the game today, the following changes were made.
(description to english): This is a meeting place with a fountain monument installed at the time of the opening of the second phase of Whity Umeda in 1970, and also has an entrance staircase because it is located directly below the intersection. The fountain monument was removed in conjunction with the renovation in 2019, but a wooden monument with a motif of flowing water called the “Water Tree” was placed in its place, and it remains as a representative meeting place of Whity Umeda. It is still there. The photo shows the symbolic “Water Tree” monument.

That is, the wayspot, the symbolic art of the square, was transformed into the square’s wayspot by being re-titled. I actually reviewed this title and description edit myself on May 14, 2025. As for the description, someone had changed the description to a mixture of Japanese and English, so I had to choose the current description which is more comfortable. However, the explanation is not about the symbol art, but about the square.(Actually, the mixed Japanese/English description was also reviewed on May 6, 2025, and I had selected mine, but it had been changed.)
But this change of title is an abuse. I had submitted the Wayspot myself, so of course I had chosen the title that I had submitted. But today I noticed that it has been altered to Wayspot in the square. Maybe I should have sent an abuse report when I did this review. The reason I started this discussion is that I thought that trying to undo the title and description of this wayspot as well would be an abuse that would alter the Wayspot of the square into a Wayspot of symbolic art. Would it be possible to have the title and description restored?

Incidentally, last week, the photo of the building I submitted for the Wayspot a little east of this Wayspot was replaced by a Sanrio character, Kitty, and just before the title was changed to “Hello Kitty Forest”. I discovered the title edit in my review of this one too and immediately reported it as an abuse.

Hi @CrownFeather
If I understand you correct someone is trying (successfully) to repurpose the wayspot you’ve submitted in the first place.
From POI: Statue
To POI: Mall

If that is the case here you should fill an abuse form or ask helpchat.

Yes, I see that your title in English translates to Fountain Square Water Tree, and Water Tree has now been removed from the title, to make this seem as though it’s the Wayspot for the square, not the artwork.

As for the description, it seems as though it’s more descriptive of the area, but also of the Water Tree itself. I do take some issues with the noting that the Water Tree is still there and that the main photo shows it, as that just isn’t needed.

Like Alice noted, I would alos use the Reporting Abuse form to report this as possible repurposing of the artwork into the entire square. I imagine that the square is much larger than the artwork.

Just to note, this change most likely happened before the split between Ingress, as the portal in Ingress doesn’t have Water Tree in the title. The description may have changed there as well.

If you want to report it for Ingress as well, you can do so at the link below: Reporting Abuse in Recon — Recon Help Center

Another thing to think about is maybe creating a Wayspot for the square, as that may be eligible as a great place to be social as well as explore, since the artwork is there. This may help with any repurposing in the future. I don’t see that before the split there was a Wayspot on the Intel map for the square, so something to keep in mind.

Thank you, I was able to restore the title and description in Wayfarer, but not in Recon and was prompted to submit an edit from the portal for the title and description. I will leave Recon as is.

The only thing I can think of is that the edits were submitted via PoGo, not Ingress, thus why they directed you to submit edits.

Congratulations!
Did you use helpchat or the abuse form?

That may be so. A little interesting since the results were split.

Thanks for congratulating me on the results! I used the abuse form. The only The reply just stated that the team had restored Wayspot to its original state.

You can also use the current contact form for recon. I’d this option not good for you?

Thank you for your reply. I sent Recon the exact same request to restore the title and description, also via the Abuse mail form. Unfortunately, the response was as follows.
“We are unable to assist you with your request. You can submit edits to the Wayspot in question through in-app”
Recon may recognize this Wayspot as a square.
I have reached the agent level where I can also edit the location, but I will not send it from the app.
