Thank you for the update on this specific wayspot.
However please remain respectful towards fellow wayfinders.
All wayfinders need to exercise judgement calls and therefore opinions will vary.
Having a difference of opinion on the suitability of how something may or may not meet eligibility and acceptance criteria is to be expected.
Please respect that differences happen.
Niantic staff acts and chooses when it is necessary to remove posts. It was Niantic’s decision to remove commentary that they decided was not in line with the forum guidelines
I understand that differences in opinion are normal, that’s part of any review process. But the issue here wasn’t just a “difference of opinion.” The conversation became dismissive and opinion-driven, with several comments ignoring Niantic’s actual written guidelines in favor of personal interpretation. Respect goes both ways. I’ve stayed factual and cited official sources throughout this discussion.
That said, I’m not going to continue this discussion any further. At the end of the day, the very wayspot I was being pressed in this discussion was approved because another player nominated it, and that outcome speaks for itself. I’m happy with the result, and that’s really all that matters! ![]()
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is removed since it doesn’t seem to have pedestrian access, being located in what appears to be a hedge or border at the side of the road with no visible path!
Hey there. I’m the one who said this was unsafe access. I say that after having been involved with the Wayfarer program for over 5 years. I’ve seen all of their published guidelines, been involved in writing them, and seen what gets posted in appeals channels for removal requests and what gets actioned on. I didn’t claim “unsafe” and now list credentials for show or with authority, but to maybe help you understand why I felt that way.
I regret that staff has updated the published guidelines in ways that makes it difficult to explain anymore. I believe this is their fault, and unfortunately it places you and myself (and others here) in unfortunate crosshairs that should be unnecessary. It also makes this unnecessary discourse when objects that the community generally disagrees with that gets approved - by community or even Niantic, at times.
I’ve already explained why I believe this location is unacceptable. I don’t think I need to rehash that.
I would hope you can understand why we consider this area to be unsafe. Wayfarer Criteria does not include “80-meter proximity.” Future games may not have the same distance, and not all means of interaction within PoGO can be done that far.
I hope future experiences with Wayfarer can be more positive for you.
Currently the automated filter that is usually referred to as Emily is not working. This unfortunately means that lower quality nominations are getting put through to voting, and sometimes mistakes happen with regards to things getting accepted when they shouldn’t. It wouldn’t surprise me if one of the wayfarer staff sees this thread and removes the wayspot in question, given that it has been demonstrated that it doesn’t meet the safe pedestrian access requirements.
Most of us were trying to help you on this topic. There were two issues with this submission. The question about whether neighborhood signs meet Niantic’s written criteria is debatable. The question about whether a point of interest must have safe pedestrian access is not.
I agree that you should read the criteria and try to understand it for yourself. Don’t simply let me or anyone else tell you what it says. Niantic has their written criteria a couple of places. One is the link I shared previously at Wayspot Criteria — Wayfarer Help Center and another is the criteria tab on the Wayfarer site at https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/criteria/eligibility
If you review this post from the beginning, I asked you how you felt it met the acceptance criteria. Anytime you can make a compelling case that something meets that documented criteria without meeting any of the ineligibility conditions, you may try nominating it with no worries, whether I agree with you or not. That is for reviewers to decide. But once it clearly meets an ineligibility condition, you should not try it, or you could risk sanctions against your account.
This is a nice statement from Niantic about criteria related to submissions:
We remain happy to answer questions for you in the future.
The most important thing about Wayfarer, yet the hardest to grasp, is the eligibility criteria. No matter how much I explain it, people just don’t get it ![]()
