Hello,
I would like to ask for confirmation regarding an approved Wayspot
that is not appearing in Pokémon GO.
I submitted a Wayspot on December 14, 2025.
From December 17 to December 25, I received multiple emails
confirming that the nomination was approved.
The Wayspot is shown as “Approved” on the Wayfarer site.
However, it has not appeared as a PokéStop or Gym in Pokémon GO.
I understand that not all approved Wayspots are guaranteed
to appear in every Niantic game,
and that Pokémon GO has its own display rules
(e.g. cell limits).
That said, I would like to confirm:
- Whether this Wayspot is correctly registered in the Lightship database
- Whether it is currently blocked only by Pokémon GO display rules,
or if there may be any other issue (location, duplication, etc.)
There are no login issues, warnings, or restrictions on my account.
This question is only about the game map appearance.
Thank you for your time and clarification.
Hello and welcome @yoru041006
Could you please provide the location of the wayspot - coordinates work best
Thank you for your reply.
Here are the coordinates related to the approved Wayspot.
These points are all within the same area and may represent slightly different reference positions:
36.3358358, 138.8528776
36.3354917, 138.8534311
36.3357661, 138.8528524
36.3349178, 138.8535320
36.3356289, 138.8535448
36.3353145, 138.8535625
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
Thank you for your assistance.
Hello,
This is what the map looks like
The green and red lines represent some mapping software called S2 cells.
It’s use in Pokémon Go is explained in this article
https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
Pokémon Go selects 1 wayspot from each of these cells to use in the game as a stop or gym.
You can see
cell 1 there are 3 wayspots only 1 will appear
Cell 2 there is 1 wayspot so it will appear
Cell 3 there are 2 wayspots so 1 will appear
Cell 4 there are 3 wayspots only 1 will appear
If the cells already had an established pokestop/gym then yours would not appear.
If of the total of 8 wayspots here if none are appearing then the likelihood is that the property owner has requested their removal.
Does that answer the question?
Thank you for the explanation.
I have one additional question.
In other nearby areas, I can see PokéStops or Gyms that appear to be very close to each other.
Could you please clarify why multiple PokéStops or Gyms can exist so close together in those cases?
Is this due to different S2 cell levels, older placements, or changes in the rules over time?
yes. the locations only have to be on opposite sides of those invisible lines, so can be very close in real life.
also yes. in the past, location edits would not change the status of a pokestop or gym, so they could be forced into the same cell. now the distance a location edit can be done in game is much more limited, and the cells are normally recalculated, although we have seen some unexpected behavior after a location edit.
I do always like to make a statement that misplacing a pin to put something in an empty S2 cell is abuse that Niantic takes very seriously. We see many reports here of bans for misplacement. Only use this knowledge to know where to go look for points of interest to submit.

Glad to have helped😎
It is possible because of the way cells and real life objects line up that some can be very close in the game but they happen to be in different cells. As long as the invisible line comes between them they can appear.
Here is the junction of 4 cells there are 3 wayspots close together but because of the lines each is in its own cell and so it appears. The cell top left doesn’t have anything at the junction but has a wayspot at the other end of the cell but also appears. If the lines had fallen differently you might only see one of the 3 that are close together.
There were instances in the past where relocating a wayspot could result in more than one appearing in the same cell, but selection algorithm shoukd ensure that doesn’t happen.
