Wayspot edits question

Good morning all and happy new year! I rejoined Pokémon Go after a friend asked that I hop back on and have been enjoying it since. To be a bit more proactive and of benefit to my local Go community, I wanted to try my hand at submissions, edits, suggestions, etc but have found difficulty in getting certain things approved and wanted some clarification.

For example, I was able to add a description to one Pokestop in my city (the B&O Brasserie here in Baltimore) and it got approved without issue. But right across the street was another building that needed a description too. I added just that- the primary address of the building, its location in downtown Baltimore, and the fact that it had been recently renovated into a hotel. Strangely enough, this description was rejected and a comment about “trying to repurpose a wayspot is a violation” was added which really confused me because I was simply trying to add a relevant context. Literally both the address and the hotel name, which I mention, are in the wayspot photo. Is anyone able to shed some light as to why some of these edits get approved so easily while others seemingly are rejected for no reason? I’m not trying to do anything against the rules, at least not on purpose, and I’m struggling to see the pattern and consistency needed to be good at my submissions and suggestion.

Welcome to the forum!

Can you give more information about the Pokestop? If you give the title and location, I can probably find it. While it may seem like just a correction to what is actually there to you, if the Wayspot is no longer what it was approved as, it should be removed. The new point of interest can be submitted as a new Wayspot if it is eligible.

Hey there friend,

Thank you for your help with this matter. The Pokéstop is the “Union Trust Co Building”, which is its historic name. The edit was to add the address, which is technically 101 N Charles St, the location- in Baltimore City- and the latest use of the building, which is a hotel branded as “Candlewood Suites”. If the title should have been updated as the name of the hotel that’s one thing, but I’m still at a loss as to why the description itself was denied and then the appeal denied as well. The exact reason given is as quotes:

“ We have reviewed your contribution and determined that it is not related to the object this Wayspot represents. As a result, we have rejected your submission. Please note that trying to repurpose a Wayspot is a violation of our policies”

The description was, in fact, related specifically to the object in question and I wasn’t trying to repurpose anything so, again, at a loss here.

Okay I found it at 39.290478, -76.615104

There is absolutely no description. And as you said, the hotel name is in the photo.

Can you give us a screenshot of the edit you tried? Since you received a comment, I assume that this was the result from an appeal of a rejected edit?

Is the building still known as "Union Trust Co Building”?

If this is the case then I would leave the title alone as the waypoint is for the historic building not the company.

If the nomination was just for "Union Trust Co” then as it has changed then the correct procedure would be to remove the waypoint then re-nominate as at seems that the “Hotel” has not gone to a vote.

In regards to the Description, I would ignore the address. Again if it is still known as “Union Trust Co Building” you could add the history and that the building is now used as a Hotel named…”

To simplify: Is the current waypoint for the building or what it was previously used for?

This is the spot, yes. Below is the very succinct description I hoped to add:

Maybe I could have added the year it was constructed and the year that it was renovated into a hotel? I just wanted it to be short and sweet but it seems like that wasn’t enough.

The building does not use this designation anymore it appears, according to this post back from 2013:

Apparently it is now referred to as the “Jefferson Building” but I can’t find any other substantiating sources for that. As of this year (2026) I think it’s most commonly known as “The Candlewood Suites at 101 N Charles”

I do not see anything wrong or repurposing in this edit. Sometimes bad appeal decisions are overturned when posted here on the forum, but there isn’t a specific path to appeal an appeal decision. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I hope you will submit a new description with even more information.

If you decide to resubmit I would remove the word recently - it will quickly become dated :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Happy to report that the edit denial really seems to be nothing more than a weird fluke; almost all of the other edits I’ve made and one waystop submission I sent in have been approved  feeling a lot more confident in my edits and submissions going forward. Thank you to everyone again for your comments and suggestions!
