Wayspot locations

Should be able to vote for wayspots in our area only. I keep getting suggestions from out of county and sometimes out of state. I cant vote or answer questions about waypoints i have never been to.

Welcome to the forum!

I do get this sentiment, but this is not how it works. The Wayfarer Discussion Discord has posted this research about review areas:

All of my reviews are from far away, what’s up with that?
There are multiple factors that determine where you get reviews from.

  1. Your local reviewing range is roughly a 200km radius around your last played location. The area is specifically defined as the most recent level 6 S2 cell you played in and the 8 cells surrounding it (see “What is an S2 cell?”).
  2. You will also get nominations from the country you are located in. This is also determined by S2 cells, so sometimes you might get nominations from other countries that are close to the border.
  3. Your home and bonus locations work similarly to your local reviewing range. Each location you set will give you nominations from that location’s level 7 S2 cell and the surrounding cells.

It is rare to get something to review that you have actually visited. But if you cannot get enough context from the nomination to feel you are doing an accurate review, then you can skip it. We appear to have 100 skips, each on a 24 hour timer.

You can with the tools provided: Satellite view, Map view, Street View. If you come across something you still can’t answer, you can hit the skip button, it doesn’t have repercussions.

The range of voting is bigger than your area to reduce bias and also help out areas that don’t have a lot of reviewers locally.

Thank you for your response,..i just want to contribute the best that i can…so i should answer the questions about waypoints to the best of my ability based on the knowledge provided through the photos and map view?

As a general principle, the submitter of the wayspot should provide everything necessary for reviewers to evaluate it, with google maps/streetview/’satellite’ images to assist and any links provided. There should be no expectation that reviewers know the local area that the wayspot is in.

Exactly! The key phrase from the staff (I don’t remember who said it) is “use your best judgement”

Thank you🤠

Thank you for your response🤠

For me it seems that I don’t get anything within about 15 miles of my home location / play area even though I have seem many new wayspots on the map. Has the Discord Research spotted anything regards this?

If this is just me that just happens not to be reviewing when they are “In Voting” then might be worth putting it as a suggestion to Niantic, would “reduce” risk of voting circles?

I used to complain all the time that I rarely got anything to review that was actually from Cary :woman_shrugging:

I’ve had stuff from my own town, but it is rare, and I imagine that’s intentional.

NGL I love when I get random states. I get to see stuff I wouldn’t have otherwise.
