I dont understand why this was rejected?
-
So hopefully one of you guys could have me figure it out
Good day and welcome to the forum!
We are not shown the initial rejection reason for this nomination hence it is difficult to ascertain why. Assuming it was along the lines of “Rejected by the automated process…”, it may be the AI filter.
Trails & Markers seem to be relevant to this topic. The article highlights the importance of distinguishing each trail marker representing an actual hiking trail, such as marking the trail according to the distance in series or as a relevant decision point.
It may also help to zoom in on the trail marker panel for the primary photo. Supporting photo and text should help verify where it is exactly at the trail. A combination of the trail map and showing junctions/other objects near this one marker can help reviewers better pinpoint its location is as pinned.
Sorry I just uploaded a new picture to the topic because thats the Strange part theres no rejection reason as far as I can see
Ah my bad, it shows that it is under Niantic review. It doesn’t show the rejection reasons at this status.
I was under the assumption that it was appealed? (I wrongfully read it as rejected)
Well the thing is that it was rejected once already and 2nd time i made an appeal
This was the first time it got rejected and I tried to better the nomination the 2nd time
So to put this simply, imagine if you’re the reviewer that is new to the area. Does your supporting photo show enough environment that they can recognize it from Streetview, satellite map, or other resources? A preliminary look at streetview near the mink farm for me does not immediately point where this is.
As the submitter, you have to provide more context in the supporting info to prove its location via links and geotagged photos.
Okay i do understand where you are coming from so for this case would you take the picture from the actual street or from the dirtroad where you can then see the actual street?
And as for the links sorry but what would links be in this case as it’s a trail marker?
It’s good to link to some evidence of the walking trail if you can find it, especially anything with a map.
Some long-distance walking trails are marked on OpenStreetMap, if it is then you can deeplink to the section of the map like this - https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/1772894#map=16/52.03335/-0.48550 . Other than that, there may be a map supplied by the park or local government or something similar.
Having supporting information is really helpful for reviewers because often these trails are not visible under tree cover. While a map might not confirm the exact location of the trail marker, it should confirm the route of the trail so it makes it easier for reviewers to check.
On the trailmarker photo itself, I’d recommend getting quite close to it and cutting out the amount of greenery. Emily (the AI that does the first step of reviewing) hates pictures with too much greenery and may just reject them outright.
Okay thanks for the answer i’ll do some research on this to see if i can find a map as i’m new to the area myself
The appeal i made just got rejected aswell so i’ll try one last time and if rejected again so be it that just means its not meant to be a poi or that i’m not meant to make them
Hard to know for sure. It is recommended to include any part of the steet that can be compared to the Streetview/satellite with the object submitted. Like this
You might have better advantages using geotagged supporting photos since there are a few visibly recognizable junctions in your setting. This is what I use
Any proof that shows this trail exists here may help.
Oh wow this is so detailed i really appriciate you guys helping me out with this and you were very close to the actual location there just a lilttle more to the left
you still see the buildings on streetveiw
and for the geotagged pictures wouldnt enabling location for the camera in settings work aswell or would you actually suggest getting that app?
Enabling location doesn’t help here, because the location isn’t shown to anyone, just embedded into the image data. The GPS Map Camera app puts a watermark onto the image to assist with showing the location details. Don’t use this for the submission photo, only the supporting photograph to confirm location.
The submission photo should be of the object with minimal surplus surroundings.
The supporting photo should also be of the object but from further away to show how it exists in its surroundings. If this can match to a streetview image, this is very helpful even if the object itself isn’t visible on streetview.
(off topic, but it is frustrating how many submissions don’t show the object in the supporting photo and there is no streetview, so it is impossible to know where the object is. I nearly always reject those.)
Gotcha i’ll try this later when i get home from work.
So first picture normal camera close to poi
Supporting picture GPS app camera with poi shown in its surroundings ( i usually try to have poi in one of the cornors when submitting something )
I’m also unsure about the nature of the location where this trail is so I will just link these and let you gather where does it fall under:
This is also helpful for future pois so i appriciate it
And to answer this i’m also unsure what it would fall under since the farm itself shut down yeas ago and now a few of thouse trail markers have been placed arround the land? Would you yourself actually bother suggesting any of them since streetveiw and satellit still shows it as farm land?
A trail marker going through farmland on an explicit trail, not in the crops and not in the middle of a featureless field, should be fine. (I’ve submitted lots of those in the UK)
Assuming these are real trailmarkers and you can show they exist there, they are worth working on.
I cannot confidently submit this without further context about the land. I am also not from this region to be familiar with its rural zoning. Local insight might be more helpful in this regard.
Alright thanks
I’ll look arround more in the area surly theres a map of the hiking trails somewhere to help me prove that this marker is legit
I’m off of work in 30mins and then i shall be off to find more information to back up the existence of this trail marker i appriciate all the help i’ve gotten from all of you guys today
