Hi, this is a Wayspot that sits within a restricted area of the park in an unsafe location. Both the bridge connected to the tower and the field underneath are both off-limits with restricted signs pitched in visible locations. Down at the base of the tower holds the dam’s spillway, which is a very dangerous area to be and is why these restricted signs are posted.
It does not have pedestrian access, not across the bridge. There is a locked gate on the bridge, you can’t walk up to the tower entrance. I can’t tell you how easy or safe it is to touch the base of the tower, though.
There are signs that state this area is restricted, most likely to those who work on the dam. There are also barriers in the photos provided by the OP showing this is an area that’s not accessible to pedestrians; these barriers are even on Street View, and that hasn’t been updated since 2008.
This can also fall under obstructing emergency services, as it may obstruct workers from being able to get to the dam to perform their duties. Some dams provide vital services to an area, such as measuring water depth and flow, having weather stations, or even being hydroelectric dams, producing electricity from the water flow. The below is from the tooltip for Appropriate when reviewing:
Obstructs emergency operations - Locations that obstruct the driveways of emergency services or may interfere with the operations of fire stations, police stations, hospitals, military bases, industrial sites, power plants, or air traffic control towers.
@L4SoBoss I’m thinking that Crooked Creek Lake is man-made, possibly for flood control reasons, but also for rec reasons. I know of other lakes like these that have similar control towers restricted to pedestrians. This is listed as a US Army Corp of Engineers area, and they also have a maintenance building not far from this tower that also appears to have restricted access.
I didn’t think of considering it as OBS, but I do see what you mean now.
There are pedestrian-friendly locations to view and learn about the dam like a picnic area with a flood control sign across the water, but that sign is already a wayspot.
I would say not a good place for exploring, exercising or gathering. Not safe and not intended to be accessed. Games should not be encouraging players to do so.
Thanks for the appeal, @L4SoBoss! We took another look at the Wayspot in question and decided that it does not meet our criteria for removal at this time.
