What is the point of trying to correct a miss named stop?

I have tried to alter the name of a bar on the Liverpool water front , it has been renamed and rebranded twice now and I have tried to alter the name to it’s current name to keep things updated.
But it keeps on getting rebuffed , I have provided photographs etc but it doesn’t seem to appease wayfarer. So just wonder what’s the point of you can’t update Venues?

Hello and welcome @hattiehoodle
#If the ownership has not changed ( which can frequently be the case with pubs) you can provide all the details including a new photograph via help chat ( I think thats the most suitable) and they may change.
Otherwise if it is in different ownership this is considered repurposing by the wayfarer Team, and the procedure then is to have the current wayspot removed then make a fresh submission for the new one.

Things I have done to help in correcting the a title:

Update the photo clearly showing the correct name. The next step can be tough, but upvote the photo so it can become the cover photo. Perhaps engaging the community to help with the vote count.

Send an update on google maps. People tend to use whatever maps says as gospel.

Lastly you can submit it as new and then try to get the old-name wayspot removed from the game. If the old one was a gym then it’s highly unlikely to get a gym back in the same spot and any progress you had would be lost. This longer process is a lot tougher to accomplish with chances for the new sub to be identified as a duplicate or the old one not being removed are high.

I don’t know about you, but I only submit title edits on gyms. Correcting stops could be a full-time job and we don’t have a list of stops we’ve visited like we do for gyms. I could understand if you sent gifts from this pub and wanted it to reflect the correct name. Making things right should be effortless but how much effort do you want to put into correcting this?

This is abuse if you are repurposing a Wayspot. I would recommend using the Wayspot Removals form to report the new title and let them decide if it is a correction that can be edited in, or an entirely new Wayspot, in which case they would remove the existing Wayspot.

[Edit: staff have said that updating murals is allowed with edits, and this would be a good way to proceed on those corrections. What is considered to be Repurposing? - #4 by NianticAaron]

Obviously NOT repurposing. Same building, same type of business, everything is unchanged except for the the name of that business. The first two suggestions I provided are there to help reviewers to make the correct decision the next time you submit that title correction.

That can still be repurposing. Read the rest of that article I linked. If it is not the same exact business, then it is repurposing.

For example churches that are still churches

Here Aaron suggest using the report form I mentioned. I just recalled that some people don’t see those links the way they view the forum, so I will link it here.

And I want to be clear that I appreciate that you are just trying to help. But the ambassador had already explained the repurposing thing to the OP, and I don’t want anyone to get in trouble over advice they got on the forum.

I will add a similar event I have recently had but with a Description.

An “Adventure Play Park” in a country park as just been re-newed.

  • Same Location.
  • Same Name.
  • Still A Play Park

They have just removed all the old equipment and put new in. There are new swings replacing the old ones, new climbing frame replacing the old one etc.

I uploaded a New Photo, Accepted immediately (eMiLy?).

I also did a Description edit to add “Refurbished 2026” so that it was obvious why the 2 pictures shows different equipment. This was Rejected!!!

I did a rename to a local park because the original submission had misspelled the name of the park. It was approved the next day.
