What is the problem here?

Why it is not accepted? This is the only wayspot from the village. It is a distinct sculpture. Every player who walks on that street, sees that unique sculpture. It would be the closest waypoint for players of 5 villages (check the map).

Title: The Big Clothespin
Description:
”The sculpture represents the greatness of a simple object used by everyone, but not truly appreciated.”

Thank you!

Welcome to the community. I did a Streetview of the location before making a comment.

  1. This looks temporary.
  2. This doesn’t look significant.
  3. This may look like being on Private property or on the perimeter, but am unsure.
  4. Lacks sufficient safe Pedestrian Access. I may be in the minority on this one, but I can’t see a Pavement or a safe(r) walkway that I would be ok with.

Hi! Thank you for replying.

  1. The object is anchored in the ground with concrete.
  2. It is not a place where many tourists pass, but many people take pictures being a unique object.
  3. It is not located on private property.
  4. It is not a sidewalk because it is a village where there are not many cars and it is 100% safe for pedestrians.

Looking at the nomination, it’s difficult to determine that it is permanent. It may be permanent, but it’s not obvious from the image. Also, it doesn’t exist on Streetview. This isn’t the fault of yours, but in the absence of anything better, it’s something that most of us rely on.

Did you provide any evidence that this is permanent? Is this part of an Art installation provided by the local authority?

Regarding the lack of sidewalk, I would err on the side of caution. I don’t know the area, so can’t assume that it is safe. People may walk down there regularly, but, I can’t make that judgement on the merits of what I see in the nomination.

Welcome to the forum @t1bex

I see you have already submitted an appeal for this one. What was the rejection reason?

The local authority installed this sculpture a few months ago. Should I ask for documents from the town hall? It was an event where children assembled various wooden objects to beautify the village.

If I remember it was: ”Rejection Criteria/Wayfarer criteria”

Okay that email indicates this was probably a rejection by Niantic’s ML (machine learning ai) model with the phrase “our team”. The rejection reason would have most likely been “Wayfarer criteria” and in this case, I think appealing the decision was probably the best thing to do. It probably could not recognize what was in the photo.

If the appeal is rejected, we can help you try to figure out whether to resubmit. Let us know the outcome.

Are there more of these as I think they look interesting?
Is there a website or Facebook page about the project?
That grass verge looks potentially ok to me.

Definitely let us know outcome of the appeal and if necessary we will help try again.

I think there are more sculptures like this, but not exactly the same. I mean, that’s unique. I found a post on a group on Facebook from May 22nd 2024, but it is not so relevant. I mean, I don’t see any potentially important photo… You can check the name of the group and search it on the map. Facebook post

Niantic Note

Thanks for the appeal, Explorer! The nomination in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as it is a temporary wooden pin which looks highly non-permanent. If this assessment is not accurate, please resubmit the nomination with additional context. We recommend you review the Wayspot Criteria before submitting your next Wayspot contribution: Wayfarer — Niantic Technical Support and Help Center

I have no idea how graffiti or paper posters are permanent and a wooden monument put in the ground with concrete not.
I reviewed 200 nominations and I’ve seen a lot of wooden objects that are already accepted that are not better than mine.

Yes … it can be very frustrating!

Looks like you need to submit again. Maybe your next photo can show the concrete fixing. Supporting pic to show object and pedestrian access.

I love it and good luck …

Hi @t1bex
Sad outcoming
As in the Niantic statement written, they doubt of the permancy.
A while ago there was a post here about using collages as supporting photo. I think in your case here could this be a solution for giving a photo where you show how it is anchored to the ground and show the surrounding.

Maybe call it clothes peg as more familiar for AI etc

Oh interesting
Is the phrase “clothes peg” more common in the US than “clothes pin”?
In my translation it’s the same :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

i believe so – amazon.com sells clothes pegs

Mod Note: Added a workaround to remove the auto-hyperlink

Look at this:

This is a permanent wayspot and mine not… How is it possible?

So Niantic did not have an issue with the location - that was a concern for me as to whether that would be considered SFPRP (single family private residential property) in front of the fence like that. If you are convinced this is a public space - and that pole seems to indicate that it is, you could try again.

Your main photo is taken in the proportions I would usually recommend, but maybe in this case you need to step back just a little and let a little more of the background show to show the scale of this object to make clear it is not just a normal clothespin.

I do think your supporting needs to both show position and permanence.

A link talking about this project would help immensely.

Not what you were hoping for……but it’s time to go to work on the resubmission.
Some good points and suggestions already.
Could you pull back the grass at the base to show the concrete?
If you want you can submit a collage of a couple of photos to show different aspects.
A link to anything about the project will help.
Maybe refer to it more as an art work as part of a project……is there a common theme to the whole project.- what they are made of, ordinary items etc
I think a new title would be good.
I would describe it as an artwork rather than sculpture. Then something about how a simple functional object inspired this giant version.

I won’t try. It is not about the photos or the description. It is about luck. I saw many waypoints with terrible photos and no description and were accepted. I give up.
