I started Wayfarer because I wanted to improve the gameboard, but that was quickly overtaken by a love of making it better for my local community. Doing Wayfarer feels like my service to them in a lot of ways because I adore my locals. They’re truly the best.
I also do Wayfarer because I am a stone-cold nerd, and I would have to say my love of learning about public art and local history is just as much of a draw for me as improving things for the people in my community.
Maybe it would be more accurate to say I do Wayfarer nominations for me, and reviews for my locals.
Hello fellas,
About the question of “Why i do Wayfarer?”
I personally started doing it because around my village theres none, and since we are having a boom with a lot of nature turism in Azores Islands nowadays, i though maybe i could work out to be a future good place to travel, for Pokemon Go players.
Theres a lot of new parks and sports infrastructures that been built latelly, that have no pokestops. We also have a huge net of Pedestrial trails, that have 0 pokestops, but its hard to get em aproved. I always try to get a bit of its history on the things i find interesting to wayfare, but it’s hard to get em going. I get avarage 5 accepted for 30 uploads.
This also leads me to another question, I can get some pokestops on empty places, but how can we improve the number of spawn places for pokemons? is this automatic? does it depends on the the turns that pokestops gets or the number of visitors?
Originally I did it cause the closest grind spot was 30 minutes away from me, there were so many plaques, murals and poi’s around my area and no one seemed to either be higher level enough to nominate said spots or didn’t cared enough to do so.
When I started I managed to create over 5 o 6 gyms around my neighborhood it was a game changer during COVID suddenly all the players around started creating Whatsapp groups for remote raids in the neighborhood, I got to meet some people there I even incentivized some of that people to help me finding more spots to nominate as well as to review them to make the play field bigger and better for everyone.
My local community didn’t went crazy big or viral as many of you share here but I got to meet a couple of cool people and it bring me joy to know o helped my neighborhood to get a more enjoyable playing field for the game. I guess that’s the story on why I got and why I’m still here.
I started doing it to improve my town’s gameplay, since we only had three Waypoints at the time. Now we have over a dozen, but I still try to find more to feed my curiosity and desire to explore. It’s made me explore alleys and trails I never would’ve thought of before!
