Why do I need to write an entire essay on what makes a location important for the community?

It’s sad that it got a bit derailed here because the original question is still a fair one.

@djreed14917 let’s put it another way, imagine that this isn’t a wayspot but a business proposal and you have to make an elevator pitch for it. Make it sound appealing enough to be interesting (Photo, Title and Description in the case of a submission) and then follow it up with more detailed information in the supporting text.

If you can engage the reviewers enough in their initial look at the submission then they are more likely to look at the supporting information. Nobody wants to read an essay, so structure it so that the most important information is first. Do include links if it helps, again start with the best sources first.

I do think it gets easier to get things accepted as you get more experience in both finding viable wayspots and polishing them up enough for reviewers to like them.

Well personally i dont want to read essay but i expect some link or good summary of the candidate. People say thing are good place to socialize all the time, they need to give some supporting evidence to back up that claim. Just word is not enough.

In the end , reviewer are just human. Some of them might be new to wayfarer. Its inevitable that some good nomination got falsely rejected hy accident. Resubmitting and /or appeal usually work if its good candidate. If it still fail, consider moving on. If you think of it this way, you wont stress yourself in submitting.

Imagine 100 people are reviewing your submission. Imagine you claim that a restaurant is worth visiting, popular, well reviewed etc, but don’t provide any evidence.

This means 100 people need to search for the restaurant on google or maps to see if there is anything to back up your claim, because such claims should not be accepted without evidence otherwise anyone could claim anything about any restaurant.

Or one person does that search and includes a link in the supporting information.

I must have lenient reviewers  my supporting is usually something like “POI is eligible bc it’s a local hotspot where the community gathers. Visible on satellite and/or street view.”

No links, just vibes.

You should know that people sometimes desperate for wayspot and just submit everything is good for socialize.

My supporting information is often as brief as that. As long as you don’t have anything that needs proving and it is easy to see on ‘satellite’/streetview, some nominations don’t require a lot of support. Some do, such as restaurants.

I observe the whole conservation and I think I can dip in some of the opinion for Coffee shop at least.
[Take my opinion as a grant of salt since I am still fresh into Wayfarer]

  1. Survey why is this coffee shop is great to explore!
  • The first thing is google the coffee shop, you might have a nice newspaper :heart_exclamation: , or the coffee shop website in which you can direct people into saying: “this is not my saying, this is the coffee shop that is offering this stuff, that stuff”
  • The second thing is checking google map, and see if they have a good review. I wouldn’t personally submit anything below 3 stars, because it would be not a good look. 4 Stars generally sound nicer for most reviewers imo.
  • The third thing, even if you don’t have a google link, you observe why is this coffee place popular:

Does it have garden? Football watching event? That fit socializing
Does it on a good location? Near a factory?Near a school[Not inside a school]? Are they popular among the people in that age?
Does it have a unique feature that no other coffee shop would have?(Example: hosting event, coffee in bed,…)
Do they have mural? Post that instead!

A little 10-15 minutes research will help you significant on the submission!

  1. Great First impression!
  • When you submit a submission, I think photo and 3 first line of description is critical for review. A lot of reviewers tend to quick-read and then if they are not impressed enough, they will go straight to decline for “Generic Business” without reading the supporting photo

  • You don’t have to be a profession to take the best photo for a Coffee/Restaurant shop, however you need to take a photo good enough that you would share it like social media. I got huge compliment from the local on this coffee submission, where the photo is clear, and central enough, and get people to read it.

  • What about the description? I usually will always describe a trait why is it worth going, or the main age that people would visit. An example I have a very not good image but I can made the reader go though my submission

Description: Located on Pham The Hien Street, this is where students after classes and adults after stressful work sessions can relax with great drinks, enjoy popular street scenes, and have private space to rest, study, and nurture themselves.

[I write who would visit it first, which is “students and worker who have gone though work” if I write “people” instead, it might come as generic, so by pointing out who would visit the coffee, you can visualize why is this coffee shop worth to visit, and hence, getting the reader attention to read the rest]*

  • One of nice description but I make it short is this submission:

Description: Located in Tan Ba market, this is where many workers and employees can relax after a tiring day of work with green gardens, beautiful paintings, and delicious water.

The image is not the best, and the description is short, however I notice it is a nice coffee shop, and it is on the path from a lot of industrial company to home, so I write it down: Where worker and employee from a stressed day → Can be relaxed → with what would worth to visit[nice garden, good drink]

[you have read it to here, congrats! here is a cookie :cookie: ]
Emphasis on a great image and a great description to showcase why is it popular do wonder, that will get more people reading into your description and then your supporting info and photo!

  • A mural inside a coffee shop is also great! They are a great place to explore for many people.
  1. The supporting info: You can choose to repeat again, why this make coffee shop special, i usually write this as a reference:

This coffee shop is a perfect place to [A] because it have [X.], while also the place have some of the [Y] stuff, make it a great place to [B],…

where [A] , [B] is 1 one 3 main criteria(Explore,Social,Exercise)
and [X.],[Y.] is the trait of the coffee shop that fit the criteria.
Then at the end you provide the link like google map link(and tell them how many stars / review they got) aloneside with link you found, in which will help people verify the location. Supporting info allow link so share some of the best one.

  1. The supporting photo: sometimes word aren’t enough, and you might want to take the coffee shop during at peak hour, or normal hour with full of people. It is hard for a lot of people to take photo due to people might looking at you, so it is fine if you choose not to do it. But if you are able to do so, do it, help your case look better.

If you have read to here, I am sorry that you have hearing all my yapping and probably waste some of your time. I want to share my own experience <3 . I know one guy submit coffee shop using my advice and he have been able to submit like 20-30 coffee shop approved around a town, so hopefully this will help a lot!

Also forgive me for any grammar mistake I made :frowning:
