Why does my suggestion keeps getting auto-rejected?

Name: Litfaßsäule (eng. Advertising column/Morris column)

Description: Schöne Nachrichten- und Werbequelle im klassischen Stil für vorbeigehende Passanten (eng.: Nice News- and advertisement source in a classic style for passing by pedestrians)

Supplemental info: Eine der letzten verbliebenen Litfaßsäulen, die Nachrichten und Werbung im klassischen Stil verbreitet. Schönes Überbleibsel der Vergangenheit. (eng.: One of the last of it’s kind, that spreads news and ads in a classic fashion. Nice leftover from the past)

Hello!
I have tried suggesting this as a Poké stop multiple times now and I keep getting auto-rejected within 24h with the reason “Violates Wayfarer criteria”, with no further explanation.
I’ve tried changing it’s name and description and took new fotos, but always the same result. I’ve pinned it correctly on the map and there is no other stop close by, thats why I’m running out of ideas on what’s stil wrong with it.
It says it violates the Wayfarer-Critea, but I can’t figure out why, so I would be very happy if someone would take a look at this and help me out

Best regards
Jonas

My suggestion would be to wait until there are actually some posters on that thing. Also for your information, the system only looks at the title and at your main photo, everything else is ignored. So it’s always at least one of the two that is the issue.

thanks for the quick reply.
You might be right about the posters. Do you see anything wrong with the title or photo?

Perhaps you could try calling it something else (don’t call it adverts), but I’m pretty sure it’s the lack of posters specifically causing this.

Anyway, you can appeal it if you cant pass ML but be reminded that you have 2 appeal, each at 20 days cooldown. And you can ask advice before appeal to increase ur chance

This isn’t confirmed that ML only looks at these. I think it also looks at maps to see if it can try to locate it, reads the description to make sure it’s accurate, almost everything that a regular reviewer would do. Staff has never fully confirmed what ML fully does, and they aren’t required to to ensure that the system isn’t manipulated.

@JonasSGE Being this is only for advertisements, it may be hard to get approved and past ML. Anything that just has ads on them are seen as being indistinct to many. Now, if this was a community information board, where anyone from the community can post info on, that may be more acceptable.

You could try proving it checks any of the things you mention. All you need is something getting auto rejected and then changing one of the things you mentioned and no longer getting it rejected. I had nominations rejected and then not rejected after ONLY changing the title or ONLY changing the first photo. I also had something auto-approved with the description only saying “todo” (which I later fixed).

I just had an auto-reject for a baseball field marked as a duplicate. It’s in an area with 4 fields, and 3 of the 4 already had Wayspots; the one I nominated did not. The titles for the other fields here are incorrect, but since only 1 is in PoGo, I could only submit a title edit for that one, and that’s still in queue; they are all in Ingress, but nothing can be submitted via Ingress currently. I’m appealing, as there is additional info online from the youth baseball organization that uses the fields.

So you are only assuming this is how ML works, but again, staff has never confirmed how it fully works. Just changing the title may not get a nomination past ML, as many have nominated POIs that are eligible and get them rejected time after time, and when they ask why, we think it could be for a variety of reasons, not just title or photo. Sometimes, it’s something that isn’t on satellite/Street View yet, and the supporting photo doesn’t do a good job proving it does exist. Sometimes the description could be improved upon. Sometimes a link may need to be provided to provide more info about the POI being nominated to show it meets critera.

This is your personal experience, but it isn’t this way for everyone, so it’s just an assumption, not actually how ML works. It could also be seen as some as trying to spread mis/disinformation, and it’s best not to do that if something hasn’t been confirmed by staff.

This is what ML auto-reject emails say, BTW:

Unfortunately, our team has decided not to accept your Wayspot nomination.

Our team found it did not meet the criteria required to be accepted and has been rejected. This decision could be because of the title, description, location, photo, or a combination of criteria. For future nominations, please review our Wayspot criteria help articles to learn more about what makes a good Wayspot.

Hi @JonasSGE

Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions. I’ll try some of your methods and hope to get an approval soon

Gerne. Viel Glück :four_leaf_clover:

I had one of my first nominations for a trail marker rejected by ML. It was mounted on a lamp column in front of a house. I tried changing the main photo and it was rejected a second time by ML. I then changed the angle of the supporting photo from facing the wayspot to 90-degrees so it showed more public footpath and gardens. That time, it got past ML and was accepted by the community.

Hey just a quick update,

it finally worked. I just tried over and over again, writing different descriptions and taking pictures from different angles. After I stoped talking about advertising boards in the description and went for a more “info board/community board” approach, it got passed ML.
I got passes ML and than got rejected by the reviewers for it being “a not permanent object”. Since this isnt the case, I objected and it got approved by Niantic. It is in it’s on S2-cell with no other stops in it, so it should just be a matter of time now till it becomes a Pokéstop right?

Thanks again to all of you for your help!
Jonas
