I’m pretty sure a whole panera bread in a hospital is distinct, and safe. It can’t be because its in the hospital since I have worked many places with lots of poke stops and gyms inside the hospital.
Its a well known place. Its good for patients and visitors who are looking for something to eat. Theres plenty of open space and seating incase theres lots of people hanging around to play pokemon. Its in a public place. Its right at the front of the hospital. So even if you were coming in just to spin the stop, youre not wondering around the whole hospital.
I cant even appeal this. Please help me understand. Thanks
If you want advice on why this was rejected, please post more details.
Main photo, supporting photo, title, description and supporting text, plus location from submission email.
Please be aware that eligible wayspots still need a decent title and description to have a good chance of being accepted. Simply thinking “this should be a wayspot” and putting minimal effort into the submission is risky.
There’s a few issues I see here, though I can’t tell you which one, if it was a singular one, that led to the failure of this nomination.
Panera is a generic chain restaurant. Yes, this one is in a hospital and that’s unique, but that in itself may not justify it as a Waypoint.
Waypoints in hospitals need to establish that they won’t interfere with emergency services. While I believe this location doesn’t block emergencies, that’s the sort of thing a lot of reviewers want to see that a nominator has considered.
The description is low-quality. “stop in for some good yummiyes” does nothing for anyone–while the supplemental information text probably matters more in holding up your nomination as a great place to explore, socialize or exercise, seeing that description makes me wonder how you supported this nom in supplemental text. The onus is on you, as the person who was there and knows this location, to walk the reviewer right up to those three pillars of eligibility, and strike down any arguments against acceptability.
This post from @elijustrying is a good explanation of why this description is a problem - it gives the impression that the submitter doesn’t care whether it’s successful or not.
We get two appeals, each on a 15 day counter before we can use them again. If you don’t have the appeal button showing, then you don’t have an appeal to use.
Thank you for the reply. I was told by another trainer that putting so much effort into descriptions is unessassry and simply " this is a cool place to explore." Would be enough.
I’ll admit I am frustrated that so much effort has to be put into flavor text when the pictures clearly speak for themselves.
But thank you for clearly stating the expectations. Now i know what to work on for the future.
Well, the pictures don’t really speak for themselves to me. Can you point to those pictures and clearly understand what makes this a great place for socializing? It seems utilitarian, to me, a place to go when you can’t leave to get food so you’re grabbing what’s available here.
Which may or may not be true, but you have the space to give additional information in images and text, so why not use it?
We don’t know exactly what the "automated process looks for, but it is highly likely that the Machine Learning model just detected a wall with writing on it. For the best chance to get past this rejection, you should have a photo that centers on what you are submitting as the focal point, with a little of the surroundings to give context, but not so much that it is confusing. If I were submitting this, which I would not, I think I would have used a main photo cropped more like this:
Its a panera bread. In the middle of a hospital. Having a place that feels normal in an uncomfortable environment is huge. Having a chain restaurant in a place known for lack lustor cafiteria food is uplifting. I’ve never been to a hospital with panera as an easy option for food.
To think someone would go through the effort of nominating something and not care if it goes through is some kind of way of thinking. Highlighting nice areas in a hospital for patients and vistors to find more easily on one of the most horrible days of their lives; to maybe feel normal for a few minutes while waiting for news, to have pokemon to share with a stranger who might be going through the same thing. To be checking in for surgery, waiting to be called, opening pokemon and going, oh nice a raid! What could be more important to patient and vistor mental health? I put in the description how important it would be to patients and visitors to know the panera is there. That a poke stop could bring some reprive. Do I have to type out an essay every single time?
Sometimes, “this place is cool” or words to that effect will be sufficient. This is true mainly for 100% submissions such as churches and playgrounds. For wayspots like that, I just scan the text to check for major problems, but don’t read it properly. I still check everything else!
For anything that is not a 100% submission, which is almost everything, “this place is cool” is going to cause a lot of reviewers to reject.
Sometimes, people write too much and try too hard, which can be a negative for some reviewers (think: why is this person trying so hard to convince me - what is the problem they are hiding?)
There’s a happy medium which is quite broad. One sentence of 6 words is too little. A paragraph as long as this post might be too much, but sometimes every word is needed.
Not an essay, but put some of what you just said into the description and supporting information. If a Panera Bread in a hospital is unusual and a positive, say so
Ok, thank you for the info. I feel a lot of my ideas have been rejected lately. So this is good to know. I try to picture what i would like to see on the photo disk. But that might not be optimal for the AI
If you have other rejections of things you really think should have been accepted, you can post here - preferably start a new thread for each one in Nomination Support.
There are a good number of people here who are willing to offer advice, especially to someone who is willing to accept it, in order to help with improving eligible submissions (or advising on why something is not eligible).
I see. Maybe that trainer had a lot of easy places they posted. I tend to submit the over looked. They are probly harder sells. I feel a poke stop anywhere is great for the community. I have made so many friends in so many diffrent states because of pokemon. I have also discovered so many interesting places because of pokemon. So when I see something that might be easily over looked, I tend to want to highlight it. I didnt realize I was litterally having to sell why a poke stop that others have passed on is important.
I’ve tried writting things like ’ this is a bike trail and i feel more poke stops in the area could help bring more people outside to this beautiful trail’ and still have been rejected. So it can feel like the community is against me. But i will keep trying and try to explain better. Thanks for all the info. It is very helpful.
