I submitted one a few months ago quick rejection which is fine.
person I’ve talked to submitted 12 half got auto rejected and half beat the bot and will get accepted eventually.
It sounds like you are aware of the criteria clarification for survey markers (but for others that are curious):
But so far as the ones recently accepted… Without seeing them, I’m not sure if they are more significant in some way. But we do see some things slip through and get accepted, that don’t follow current guidelines.
Also the Showcases are selected randomly - to the best of my knowledge. So unfortunately you cannot follow spots currently in the game or Showcases for good examples of what should be nominated or accepted.
I can answer your question why people accept them. The featured page used to only choose submissions for certain places and Sydney’s area it only showed things from Lithgow in the blue mountains and for a good 6 or so months we would get 3 survey markers on display every week. So when you open wayfarer that’s all you ever saw. So people accepted them.

I’m sorry wut? It sounds as if you are well versed in what is allowed and for a long time.. and apparently check very often. yet in between you just submitted them hoping it slips? or when you see an opportunity as others are submitting theirs?
