30-day suspension for “Misplaced Wayspot” – Requesting guidance

Hello Wayfarer Community,

I’m looking for guidance regarding a 30-day suspension applied to my Wayfarer account.

According to the email I received from Niantic, a nomination I submitted on January 1st, 2026 (UTC) titled “Placa 6 de Agosto” was flagged for “Misplaced Wayspot”. As a result, action was taken against my account.

I would like to clarify that the location is real, physically exists, and is publicly accessible. The plaque is permanently installed at that spot. There was no intention to mislead or deliberately place the pin incorrectly.

I believe this may have been an honest mistake related to GPS accuracy, satellite imagery limitations, or lack of Street View coverage in the area. The nomination was submitted in good faith, with my best effort to place the marker accurately.

I have already submitted an official appeal to Niantic, but I would truly appreciate feedback from Wayfarer Ambassadors or experienced reviewers:

  • Does this situation usually justify a suspension?
  • Is there anything specific I should include to strengthen my appeal?
  • Any advice to avoid this issue in the future?

Thank you very much for your time and for supporting the Wayfarer community.

It’s not for Wayfarer ambassadors to litigate if a suspension is justified, especially without any details being provided. It’s for the Wayfarer team, who would have all the data and context in hand.

If you have evidence that would allow you to show this is an incorrect decision, I would suggest using the appeal link in one of the emails you received and providing it. This is the best thing you can do.

Am I correct in assuming that such a penalty would not be for a one-off slight misplacement?

Do you still have the email from when you submitted this wayspot? If so, the coordinates that you submitted it at should be directly below the pictures you used. Given that your suspension was for misplacement, these coordinates would be useful information.

Yes, I still have the original email with the location details.

The coordinates provided in the submission were:
-17.398805, -66.280804

Could you also add the correct location of the point of interest?

The coordinates the game gave me are -17.398805, -66.280804, and the commemorative plaque is located at the following coordinates: -17.39869, -66.28072

Just a few comments which are all just an opinion.

  • There does not seem to be any Street View so I can only take your co-ords at face value.
  • The “error” does move the waypoint from an “Occupied cell” to a “unoccupied cell” meaning in the correct location it would not appear in Pokemon Go even if accepted.
  • Do not use “GPS Accuracy” as an excuse. GPS gets you to the area, it is then down to you to place the pin. You can then check in Wayfarer and Withdraw. Whatever the reason for the error it is down to you.

It does seem like a minor error and I wouldn’t have expected this alone to have got you a 30 days Suspension but with the lack of evidence we have there is nothing else I can say.

Hopefully a member of staff will see this post and DM you with more detail.

Please be aware that only folks with Niantic in front of their name can do anything about the situation. Often staff, NianticAaron especially, will initiate a DM to explain privately in more depth to a post like this. Anything the rest of us say would just be to help you present your case.

They don’t issue a punishment like this lightly without some kind of evidence, but we have seen a warning reversed when video was presented that proved the location was correct: Got a "fake" submission warning even though the wall art is true - #18 by NianticAaron

I have a short video clearly showing that the location exists and that the plaque is physically present at the exact coordinates provided.

I can share the video if requested by Niantic staff.

You can upload the video somewhere and post the link here. Try getting video where any person can confirm the location by looking at video. Preferably if the video showing something visible from satelite or street view.

As @SlimboyFat71 pointed out, the correct location and submission location are in different cells. It is likely that when this happens, it makes location errors more likely to be flagged as abuse and needing action by Niantic, because it can make a wayspot appear as a pokestop/gym when it shouldn’t. A single minor error can be cause for a suspension in these circumstances.

Claiming that your phone GPS was wrong (which is what Pokemon Go uses) is not sufficient to explain a location error. Please note that if a location error can be perceived (and ~15m definitely counts), then there isn’t a threshold that is acceptable - the location should be the actual location.

Providing evidence that the location you have is the correct one is what will help you, assuming this to be the case.
