Before starting, I already read the post about Power Points and all that, and I more or less understand it. However, in my area, we’ve been making proposals to see if we get lucky and get one at a gathering point, which is a park with courts, games, and more for physical activities or just hanging out. Well, that area already has its PokéStop and gyms, and we added another one to see if any would become a Power Point, and nothing. Today, two new Power Points appeared, but in a location that’s not even close, and well, no one would do it because of how far away it is.
Is there any way to know what it takes for a Power Point in an occupied cell to become a Power Point? Or maybe the team in charge of adding or removing proposals can’t see this and make sure the Power Points are in real, safe locations?
The Wayfarer Discussion Discord group is trying to track how these update. There was a long period after the first week of November 2024 where no new ones seemed to be added. Then we noticed new powerspots added the first week of April and the first week of May, so maybe they are going to start syncing in monthly?
A distance of at least 22m from the nearest Pokething has been noticed. So that may be a requirement.
There seems to be a maximum of 2 active Power Spots in an L14 S2 cell.
I have no idea who to contact about what should be a Power Spot. But you can report them if they are unsafe.
So, nothing’s certain yet? The proposals we’ve submitted are more than 20 meters apart, but none of the three additional proposals we’ve submitted have been successful enough to become a power spot.
I want to know what is needed to make an energy node. In an area with little accessibility, two wayspot proposals came in. One became a PokeStop and another a Power Spot. However, in another place where we have a sports center with a lot of space, we sent more proposals and none of them have become Power Spots. Do they have some requirement or is it just luck?
Again, we really don’t have any further idea other than what’s been posted in the Power Spot clarification thread, which is imports and unused Wayspots not in PoGo.
I can confirm that a Wayspot I got approved at the end of April is now being used as a Power Spot. It was in an already occupied L17 S2 cell, so I knew it wouldn’t be a stop/gym, but it is being used as a Power Spot.
As far as I know, Wayspot, which does not appear as a cell duplicate, can appear as a power spot.
There’s nothing officially known about how it’s repeatedly shown and disappeared by what standards.
Similarly, based on Google Maps, regular stores sometimes appear as power spots.
Sometimes this same store appears, but sometimes other nearby stores appear as powerspots. Sometimes it doesn’t appear at all.
Some days it’s been a power spot, some days it’s gone..
I’m curious, too.
In the countryside I had a power spot in a place where there is no pokestop, gym about 10-15km away. However, the power spot appeared in a place where there is a portal in ingress assigned to a local company.
Similarly, the pokestop I added appeared as a portal in ingress but not in pokemon go (I didn’t know about 1 pokestop on S2 cell at the time) and in that place after about a week, a power spot started appearing.
Portals from ingress are used to create power spots where they did not create a pokestop.
Not all of them become Power Spots, but approved Wayspots that don’t appear in Pokemon Go do seem to be the first priority for Wayspots.
Of the 8 Power Spots I can currently see on my nearby, 6 of them are Ingress-only portals (and I submitted 5 of those.) The other 2 are imports that coincide with labels on Google Maps.
There are three portals that have never been used as a Power Spot that are just outside the 20m circle for an existing Pokestop, so seems to support the 22m requirement. And another accepted Wayspot that is not a portal because it is within the 20m circle of a Pokestop/portal has also never appeared as a Powerspot.
Like Cyndie noted, there appears to be some sort of monthly sync now with Power Spots since April. I noted that a Wayspot I got approved at the end of April is currently a Power Spot, closing later today.
I also noticed a new Wayspot pop up in April that has never existed in that area, and I reported it for removal, including a photo of the new development. Last Sunday, a Power Spot for the former Kmart store that closed in 2019 and was torn down before redevelopment had gone active, but later that day was removed. I’m thinking that my previous removal request showing the new development may have been enough for the Kmart Power Spot to be removed. Can’t confirmed this is what happened, but it’s possible.
Lastly, PoGo announced that starting with the G-Max Machamp event, remote raiding will be possible for Max Battles. With there seemingly being more of a monthly sync for Power Spots now, bringing this feature into the game seems appropriate, as it does seem unused Wayspots, new and old, are being used more now, and will help when the remote raiding feature goes live later this month.
