A gym demoted to a pokestop after a name change

Hello Wayfarer team,
I am reporting a gym that turned into pokestop after the wayspot title edit:

Wayspot name/title: “The Pakuwon Mall Merry Go Round” / “Komidi Putar” (before name)

Location / Coordinates: -7.290084,112.674606

City / Area: Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia
Date first (or most recently) experienced: 11 February 2026

The current status in-game is that the wayspot shows up as pokestop named “The Pakuwon Mall Merry Go Round” in Pokémon Go.

As proof that it was a gym, in the wayspot map (at the time of posting this), it shows up as a gym named “The Pakuwon Mall Merry Go Round”. And in the Campfire app, it shows up as a gym named “Komidi Putar”.

Not sure why this gym was demoted to a pokestop, but I guess because the L14 S2 cell has sponsored gyms, it fails to promote that or other pokespot to a gym; the L14 cell currently only has 2 community submitted gyms.

The wayfarer map and campfire most likely have not updated yet but it seems like Kids Playground Gate Pakuwon Mall -7.290332,112.674877 is the gym for this area?

Yes, but that gym has already been there before this issue

This is the normal behaviour unfortunately.

Sponsored gyms can be added on top of existing gyms, but do get counted in the “how many gyms does this area have” check when gyms are being calculated.

When a pokestop/gym is edited/moved, this can cause a recalculation. Since you have sponsored gyms and two community gyms, this removes the chance for a third community gym.
