Hello everyone, I received a rejection for a Wayspot nomination. Unfortunately, I don’t understand why the AI rejected me right away. I had to waste my upgrade on this, and I’m really unhappy and frustrated about it. I nominated a post office branch that is officially registered on the post’s website. I used a good photo and also provided a great supporting image. Maybe someone here can help me. Best regards.
Welcome to the forums.
The general advice with upgrades is to wait 24 hours to let the submission pass through eMiLy review before applying an upgrade. It isn’t possible to know this without being told, but this might help for next time.
Upgrades don’t speed up how long a submission sits in the queue, but once it gets to voting, the submission is opened to a wider pool of reviewers and gets voted on quicker.
Maybe this is a misunderstanding due to me living in the UK but this looks to be a postbox and not a post office.
Post boxes are usually classed as infrastructure and not meeting criteria.
Since we live in a smaller part of the town, the post office branch is divided into two parts: one part is the post office and the other part is an electronics store. The next bigger one would only be a Postbank.
That’s the service:
Mail
• Send a letter
• Buy stamps
• Drop off “Postaktuell” items
• Poste restante (general delivery)
• Buy and drop off “Wert International” (insured international mail)
Parcels
• Have a parcel delivered to a branch or Packstation
• Send a parcel
• Print “Paket Welt” label (customs)
• Have parcel/return labels printed
• Parcel pickup
• Drop off unpackaged returns for participating retailers
Express
• Pick up notified express shipments
• Drop off international express shipments
• Drop off national express shipments
Other services
• Buy gift and payment cards
• Pay with POSTCARD
• Use Postident service
• Buy prepaid mobile top-up
• Buy prepaid SIM card
Note: Parcel addressing
This does look quite similar to UK post offices, which are almost universally accepted as wayspots. it might be these are perceived differently in other countries, as the UK has some historical peculiarities around its post offices and also postboxes.
Are Deutsche Post wayspots generally accepted in Germany (even though existing wayspots are not always a good indication of what is acceptable, this should still indicate something, especially if they haven’t been getting accepted)?
This is a normal post office in my view. It is not unique since this is a very well known company as well.
Post offices aren’t usually accepted in these areas. I would decline as generic business
So the Post Office is inside the Electronics Store?
Not that different to the UK with a lot of Post Offices being moved in to General Stores.
Just using the images (as I don’t speak German
) and again this might just be as I am used to the UK way of things but the images don’t make that clear and maybe why Ai rejected it.
Is it possible to get an image inside the store?
Good luck.
Edit: To reply to @AMG7070 ‘s comments. In the UK Post Offices are usually accepted under the “Social” criteria. Post Boxes are a Grey Area as we have some historic that show the Royal Cypher of pre Elizabeth II monarchs that can get through as “Explore” but as standard are rejected.
Hello,
One issue could be that there is a logo for DHL in your main photo, which is a generic business, one that operates around the world. I would try and take a better main photo without the DHL logo in it, maybe of the front of the post office instead of the sign outside.
In the US, our post offices are acceptable, and most are seen in a historical view of being social hubs. In the past, and still in some rural areas, people met at post offices and maybe had a chat with others in town. You also send mail, a type of social correspondence at times, even though it’s not used as much as it used to, but it’s still used.
We have quite a few discussions in regards to post offices, and here’s one of them:
Hi @SaoKirit0
There a bunch of speculations here, and not too much knowledge about German Post.
First, Post Offices could possibly fulfill Socialising Criteria, but instead of arguing with current criteria, usually it has grandfathered in from old Ingress OPR guides (before Wayfarer re-branding), that Post Offices generally fulfill it because it connects people to the world.
See here: OPR Candidate Action Guide - A Wayfarer History Lesson
Now, these old guides are often not valid anymore.
If I were to look at today’s criteria I would be more doubtful about German Post Offices in particular, but that’s not too relevant here.
Deutsche Post Group owns DHL. Seeing those two logos together at post offices is a very common sight and does not mean that it is not a normal post office. As such you can not argue for ineligibility solely by seeing the DHL Logo here, it will depend on the store itself.
Usually when people reject post offices here, it’s either lack of knowledge of criteria or because they disagree personally and reject it as Generic Business. They are not commonly accepted here.
Now with this one being rejected by ML, I highly doubt it is capable of mistaking this as a post box instead of an office, it’s more simply that nothing eligible was recognized.
Why is there a post office in the electronics store? Many Deutsche Post locations are not run by them actually, but instead, are run by local partners. This can look like having a second counter in the unrelated store for postal services and items you can buy, or only having the post scanner at the regular store counter and stuff.
Except for the unnecessary part in the description saying it’s publically and safely accessible - that should only be in the supporting information - you made a good nomination attempt here and appealing it was the correct choice. Often there’s room for improvement, but sometimes the ML just rejects anyways. Let’s see how it goes, I’m doubtful that this “Post Office inside other store” would be accepted.
This is why I asked “Is it possible to get an image inside the store?“.
From the images all that is seen is a post box and a single sign. Nothing on the stores sign or windows suggest its in there.
As suggested this may be just how it is in Germany, assuming that ML is trained on 1 international model I can understand why it rejected this if it was expecting more than 1 sign and a postbox.
I think its better to just use the post office logo as wayspot photo. I dont know what am i looking if its inside store
To my eyes the interior definitely shows that it is a full on Post Office more than the original images.
A: In the UK, other Parcel delivery services will have “Drop Off / Pick Up” points in general stores, these will probably have a sticker on the door / window but is not a “Full On” Post Office. Personally I would Reject these.
B: The Post Office will either be a dedicated building or a section of the store which will deal with all the Post Office services (it is literally a post office in the shop). The store will have several Post Office signs that make it clear that it is a Post Office. It may even be called along the lines of “ Post Office & General Stores”. These in the UK I would Accept.
The nomination to me makes it look more like “A” but the interior image shows it to be more like “B”.
Maybe using the Sign as the main image with a collage of the “Street Scene” and “Interior” as supplement might work but as it was AI that rejected I am not sure it would.
I would make sure that the description stated that the Post Office is inside the Electronics Store and that it includes the full services that are found at standalone post offices.
Good luck.
Ist es irgendwie möglich das 2. oder 3. Foto von draußen aufzunehmen? Also durch die Scheibe, oder die Geschäftstür?
Ok that’s really obvious, thanks.
As stated you’ve now to wait for Niantic/Scopelys appeal decision.
But if they reject it and you want to give it a second try I would try that last picture with a step more to the left with day light. Than I’d go on the other streetside for the support photo, nearly same angle but more context.
But firstly let’s hope that they’ll accept your appeal.
Good luck ![]()
There is an appeals team, made up of humans, that review the appeals. What they are saying is that the location can’t be found where you placed the pin. However, I would say this is incorrect, as Street View clearly shows the post office sign around where you pinned the nomination, maybe a few meters off:
While there isn’t a way to appeal a rejected appeal, staff do monitor the forums, and they could take another look at this. Staff has told us to post here if we disagree with an appeals team decision, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll reverse it.
I wasn’t aware that I was supposed to upload the Wayspot from inside the office. I was standing across the street and used the same location from where I had a clear view of the post office.
