American Fire Hydrant nominations

Good afternoon,

Please may i request assistance with my submissions, i have provided information and confirmed that they fit the criteria. I think potentially my wording in the description of each may be what has had them rejected.

I have nominated five American Fire Hydrants which surround an area called Valiant Square, the hydrants (apart from number 6) have been rejected as nominations. I think this is due to me stating that they are painted yellow to show that they are connected to the public water supply, instead of they ‘were connected’, during the 1980s they were connected when this area was housed by American Air Force pilots who were stationed at a nearby RAF base. I have confirmed that these hydrants aren’t active the RISC website and provided this information in each after appealing two of them.

I have attached submissions of each and also a screen grab from the RISC website as in the supplemental information.

Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated

Regards

James

All of the fire hydrants are unused and have been left for historical reasons, if you review the RISC website (Index) and search for PE26 you will see that none of the yellow hydrants are live or in use. There are 6 of the yellow hydrants round this area which would make a good route within Pokemon GO.

The image below is taken from the RISC website, i have doctored it to show the locations of each of the hydrants.

Thank you again

Welcome to the forum.

It has been clarified that fire hydrants are not eligible as they obstruct emergency services. Some may have been incorrectly accepted, and are normally removed when reported. I will edit in a link to this clarification if I find it.

Found it: Fire Hydrant (Artful or Not) Eligibility — Wayfarer

Answer from NianticTintino

Great question. Please see our rejection criteria for clarification on this question.

  • “Location obstructs the driveways of emergency services or may interfere with the operations of fire stations, police stations, hospitals, military bases, industrial sites, power plants, or air traffic control towers”

Therefore, fire hydrants, regardless of their artistic aesthetic should be rejected.

Even if inactive i dont see these being anything other than just generic infrastructure.

Your information states that they are attached to a public water supply, so it does appear that these are in service. I would have rejected them in review.

Even if they are not, I don’t see them as interesting in their own right. Just existing doesn’t make them interesting.

Yeah it’s why i mentioned my dsecription may have been the main cause, but i appreciate you sending the link to the article about artistic or not. They don’t seem interesting, i understand that, to people in this area it’s part of the history of the housing estate, a generation or two have grown up here.

I just thought (before reading the artictle) that is ticks the boxes, people walk laps of this estate so get exercise, they meet at different hydrants and families gather in the center of all of them.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback.

Hi Roli, they are most of a historical aspect of the area, i’ve just read cyndie’s article which is useful, but essentially before reading them i thought they ticked the boxes of being on a route of the area, people meet at different ones etc. Just good things for people to look out for. Thanks for responding also, appreciate it.

I dont see anything that states they are historic and being along a route doesnt make them eligible.

Sorry historic to the estate, as in, they represent a period of time here when the area was developed, route is the main road and greenery around the area. But no worries, you have both cleared it up for me, so thank you for your help.
