I have submitted all kinds of wayspots and most get rejected for good reason but this one met every guideline, was a community staple restaurant, and was an amazing place to socialize with others. The reason it wasn’t accepted was because: it was too bland? From what I know this is the only restaurant like this in the world, and how is this bland? Someone please help me understand how this is bland. I’m currently in the process of appealing it and I’ll update this post once o get an answer
Welcome to the forums ![]()
Restaurants are generally considered to be eligible, but disliked by reviewers. It is helpful to write a good description and to back it up with evidence in the supporting information that the place is well-liked or unique in some way.
To me, your description and supporting information are much too short and assume that everyone will instantly accept your nomination.
If you are able, look at your submission as if you were reviewing it and know nothing else than what is said there. You might be able to see that there is nothing to make people think this is an interesting place they would want to go to.
People also like you to mention the Google Review Score or something similar.
Not perfect but an indication that you are unlikely to get food poisoning ![]()
Thank you!
If the appeal doesn’t work I’ll add that to it and redo my submission
I looked at their Google reviews. To be honest, they have mixed reviews. You might have a hard time getting this place approved. There are photos of their menu available online and i noticed spelling mistakes. That doesn’t inspire confidence in me that this is a well-run business.
Well personally i think its quite good. Just try imho but if you kept getting rejection, dont push it. Step back and improve your nomination
4.7/5 is definitely a good review score. @seaprincesshnb where did you find mixed reviews - I found the same as @TjoeMi
Hey there @19372882628 I’ve done a little research on your nomination and I’ve come up with this.
Take this and put it in your own words and correct anything that may need a little local clean up.
Don’t copy and paste what I have here.
Title: Main St Tavern
Description:
Local tavern in downtown Montevallo offering a welcoming space for food, drinks, and social gatherings. A popular spot for the community to meet, relax, and enjoy time together.
Supporting Information
Main St Tavern is a locally known gathering place in downtown Montevallo. It encourages social interaction and community connection, which aligns with Wayfarer’s criteria for great places to be social. The business has over **1,300 online reviews with an average rating of 4.7 stars, showing it is a popular and well-regarded local destination.
The location is safely accessible from the sidewalk and is clearly identifiable by its exterior signage.
Please include a link to the google listing if you are going to say it has 4.7 stars, because it’s always good to provide evidence of such claims. This goes in the supporting information where links are allowed.
Thank you! I’ll try to revise your message and add some more local details. I’m going to resubmit the wayspot once I come back to Montevallo in a month as I’m on vacation.
I actually read the reviews. The first one said, “I’d give this 5.5 out of 10” but that’s not the rating system on google. Others talked about the food not being hot. At least one said the service was slow.
I am going to give different advice from the others, and some examples of my own successful nominations.
I find it best to mention something special about the restaurant, like I did with Alto Lounge and Coterie, but equally some can be accepted with very little in the description like Papa Gee. I do not look at reviews for my nominations, and although this is often recommended, I do not find it necessary alot of the time.
My recommendation for yours would be to get a nicer picture that makes it look open and inviting, or at least showcases the sign better. The doors make it look closed, and people love any reason to reject a restaurant for “not being special enough” - it drives me mad. With your supporting pictures, consider one of the surroundings outside (to help people see where it is), and one inside to show it being busy if you wish- not necessary but can help. Then for your description, add 1 thing that makes this place cool for you - maybe they do brilliant wings, or have really nice coffee? If you haven’t been there yourself then look at their website or reviews - what are they known for?
Good luck and don’t give up.
The description and supporting info does not show us how this restaurant meets criteria. Without elaboration on what you say in the description, it likely will get rejected on appeal as a generic business.
If/when the appeal is rejected, try resubmitting with a better description and supporting information. Tell and show your reviewers what makes this place special. Feel free to use the supporting information to provide links for reviews, news articles, etc about this place.
Depending on where you are, you may have to convince reviewers that a “tavern” shouldn’t be immediately rejected as an adult oriented business.
Restaurants can sometimes be a difficult category to get approved. It seems to have become easier in recent years, based on personal experience, but the bar used to be set very high.
Thats brilliant news!! Well done ![]()
