Pokémon Go doesn’t tell you the truth when you make a nomination. Rather than nominating a Pokéstop, you’re nominating a wayspot for the Lightship database. If a wayspot is accepted, it gets added to Lightship, and then from there it will attempt to sync into each of Niantic’s games. However, each game has a proximity rule for this process, meaning that not all wayspots are eligible to appear in all Niantic games.
Your nomination exists in the database, hence why it’s being marked as a duplicate.
The reason you can’t see it in Pokémon Go is because it doesn’t meet the proximity requirements to be included in Pokémon Go. Each Level 17 S2 Cell can only contain one Pokéstop or Gym, and this Wayspot is in the same cell as “Busto Ignacio Allende”, so only one of them can appear in Pokémon Go. The Wayspot you attempted to submit is the red marker, whilst Ignacio Allende is the blue marker. The Level 17 S2 Cell is the red box.
It’s also not eligible to appear in Ingress due to being within 20 metres of Ignacio Allende (the red circle). It might get used in other games though.
For future reference, when you make a new submission in Pokémon Go, you can see existing wayspots including those that are not able to appear in Pokémon Go. You need to physically stand at the location of what you’re submitting, open up the submission process, and the map will look a bit like this:
Anything that isn’t in Pokémon Go displays as an orange icon, which you can tap on to see what the Wayspot is. Anything that’s already in Pokémon Go is a blue icon, and these can also be tapped on. It only shows things within 100 metres of your physical location though, which is why it’s important to open it up at the location of what you’re submitting. If the object you’re wanting to submit appears on this map, then it will be marked as a duplicate if you try to submit it.
If you want to learn more about the system Pokémon Go uses for its proximity check, read this article.
Buenas!
