Appeal Incorrectly Rejected

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Maggie’s Landing
  • Location (lat/lon): 35.978181, -85.866047
  • City: Dowelltown, TN (or Smithville, TN)
  • Country: United States
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):

  • Additional Information (if any):

I recently visited a restaurant that had an outdated Wayspot. The photo and title, Maggie’s Landing, were incorrect. Maggie’s Landing was listed as a “rustic restaurant” in the original Wayspot description. This location is still a rustic, southern-style restaurant that is now operating as Twisted Oaks, and has been for at least 4-5 years. I am in the area often and knew of the change back then, but just recently had the opportunity to visit the restaurant (it was delicious, by the way). My photo addition (the Twisted Oaks sign) was accepted and made the Wayspot cover photo, but the title change was rejected. As you can see in the Google Maps screenshots, this location is in the same building (with the star) and is now called Twisted Oaks. In 2023, they had the name on the building similar to how Maggie’s did, but as of now they do not have that sign, only the one by the road that I took a photo of. If this appeal cannot be reversed, I will make the same title edit submission next time I am near the Wayspot, but I wanted to post here first to see if anything could be done.

The correct approach when a restaurant is replaced is to report the old wayspot as being no longer there and submit a new wayspot for the new restaurant.

This is not immediately obvious, but the reasoning is that the new facility might not be eligible so needs to be reviewed.

However, if it is just a rebranding and has the same owners, then renaming is correct. It would be helpful to provide evidence of this.

The problem I’ve found with that approach is that I cannot persuade Niantic to remove the old photos with the old name.

Getting photos removed can be hard. I’d focus on getting the new photo upvoted (send the wayspot as a postcard and ask friends to vote on it) instead of trying to remove the old ones

The photo isn’t as much of an issue as the title in this case. It shows that the new photo is already the “cover photo” so it should show up as the primary photo in game, right? If not, I know I can reach out to some people to vote for the newer photo.

I do wish there was a better way to remove photos, there are several instances that I’ve seen where the original photo is horribly blurry or otherwise low quality, while a new photo of the same spot hasn’t replaced the old one. I’ve managed to get a few changed through liking the newer photos, but being able to appeal the removal of old photos would be nice.

I cannot say for sure if this has the same owners as Maggie’s Landing or not. I didn’t realize that was the better approach to take, thank you for letting me know. However, I am hesitant to report for removal, even if valid, because there have been a few AI-generated Wayspots that I’ve come across and reported, and Niantic rejected my report, even though it is painfully obvious that what I reported was fake. If the reporting system was more consistent and reliable, I’d be more willing to drive back out there and take that route.

Thanks for the appeal @DietJetFuel , We have retired the Wayspot in question and you should see the changes reflected soon.

Twisted Oaks is a different business altogether and needs to be resubmitted.

Thanks,

Thank you Aaron, I will resubmit next time I’m in the area.
