Appeals and false rejected stops

Its rather annoying that great nominations are being reject for what is said “Wayfarer Criteria”. We are trying to build up POIs but with the only getting 1 appeal every 20 days is ridiculous. Ive had i like 3 nominations for this fake “Wayfarer Criteria”. Ive read the Criteria multiple times and none of them go against it. So yall need to fix the system or give us more appeals.

Hello and welcome,

We actually receive 2 appeals every 20 days.

Wayspot Criteria is typically the rejection reason that ML, the AU system gives, and the emails usually say “our team” made the decision. There may be some improvements needed for your nominations, so feel free to post them in the Nomination Support topic, and we’d be glad to see what can be done.

Welcome  I’d like to start that I really wanted a system in place that makes it easier to appeal or re-enter ML rejections back to the community. My thought was that an initial barrier of entry might be enough to stop the truly ineligible or heinous spam. We do see a lot of rejected candidates posted that I think should have been approved. That said, we do also see a lot that were correctly rejected.

Not meeting rejection criteria isn’t enough. It still has to be a great place to socialize, exercise, or explore.

If you’re willing, I’m sure the community could help review some of your nominations for ways to have a stronger chance at getting past ML.

I think what we really need is feedback. Denied because mumble clearly isn’t sufficient.

Appeals don’t really solve the problem as those require human intervention by Niantic employees. There’s a reason the portal creation process was borked and backlogged for years. Feedback can be automated based on whatever criterion the ML used to bounce the submission. That’s typically standard process for ML and AI sorts of automation.

If human beings can tell us the reason then ML can, and should, tell us the reason more authoritatively.

The appeals team does provide a reason if they do reject it, and it’s usually in line with why ML rejected it.

Hence, why we need the OP to provide examples of the nominations that are being rejected, as improvements could be made. It’s even possible that what they’re nominating doesn’t meet criteria.

I think this rejection reason is perfectly clear, and wish the community could use it in reviewing. It means that the ML model could not detect anything eligible.

If the submission is truly “great,” then usually the photo can be tweaked to more clearly indicate what is being submitted in a new nomination.

fyi this category Wayspot Appeals is for appealing rejected reports or for requesting wrongly removed wayspots be reinstated. This should probably be moved to Nomination Support

Welcome to the forum @Skullfirelove and I hope you will share some nominations you feel were wrongly rejected for advice on either resubmitting or appealing them.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the ML if we have to appeal to every bounce in order to have a human translate the reason.

And no, I’m not getting reasons. I’m getting bald claims like you get from a child, “Is not!” I’d expect some indication of what would be better or how to correct my submission. I’m not getting that even from my appeals.

Hmm… the appeals team usually does a good job explaining why when they reject an appeal I make. Would you share some of these that don’t? I know that Niantic cares about the job the appeals team does and wants to know when they get it wrong. (I will edit in that quote when I find it.)

Sometimes AI uses “wayfarer criteria” when it can’t make out anything in the primary picture. For example, it’s almost all parking lot, dirt, nature (grass, bushes, trees), sky. Your primary picture should be 80-95% the object being nominated. (The supporting can be zoomed back to like 20%.)

As others have said: If you’ll share your nomination, we can make more educated suggestions.

Well @Skullfirelove . Lets see where we can help. I cannot talk to the system as sometimes it is weird, right, wrong and confusing. But that is to be partly expected from a system that relies on people who have different views, different reasons for wanting rejections/acceptance and an Emily (Machine Learning) solution that partly learns from the humans.

But where we can help - is your nominations…

Can you share in full the nominations of concern. Photos. Title. Description. Supporting information and address. Then post in nomination support and ask for forum to see if / and where suggestions could be made.

It might be we can provide advice that can / could improve the nominations in question.

Thanks for posting and look forward to seeing the nominations.

Cheers
