Automatically rejected, need help with my appeal

Do you have any idea why this proposal was automatically rejected, and what can I improve so that my appeal would be successful?

This proposal was automatically rejected because it violates the Wayfarer criteria.

Description
A lovingly decorated wooden bench with plants and figurines, located on an idyllic country lane, invites walkers and cyclists to take a break. Surrounded by green countryside, it is a popular resting place for nature lovers.

Zusätzliche Informationen:
The bench is located on a dirt road closed to cars. Its exact location can be identified on Maps/Satellite by the shadow of the birch tree. The bench is not particularly suitable for sitting on, but local residents and/or walkers have lovingly decorated it.

Hello and welcome,

I do hope that you review the seating benches criteria that Slimboy provided. Some issues I have with this bench is that it doesn’t seem like it can be sat on anymore from your supporting info, and some of the decorations on it do appear to be mass produced and may be easy to purchase at local stores and/or online. Your supporting info kind of debunks your description of this being a great place to rest while walking/biking.

Why did this make it into the vote and mine failed because of AI?

Bad title, no description, no additional information
simply uninspiring

Conspiracy theories say: One is in the city, the other in the countryside.

we do not (and should not) know exactly how the ML model works. but your bench has the look of a random bench placed temporarily on a patch of grass to my human eyes. the other bench installed by a paved pathway has a much more permanent and intentional look. that would be my guess as to why the second one was allowed into voting.

My theory is that the bench you saw in voting is larger, and could seat multiple people, and looks like it is in an open space where people could gather, it might be a place to socialise? So worth letting through into voting so that reviewers could decide?

It could have been taught that plain wooden benches are generally to be rejected and therefore made that decision for the countryside bench.

In order to appeal, you’d need to explain why your bench meets one of the 3 criteria of being a place to exercise, socialise, or explore, and also why it’s not rejectable for being “just a plain bench of no significance” which is the kind of language the appeals team could choose to use.

I wouldn’t hyperanalyze ML since at the end of the day we don’t know, but I can assure you that it doesn’t have a hardcoded bias against rural areas. An ML outcome is neither a measure of eligibility, as the nomination may still very well be rejected by the community or by the Niantic reviewers, nor a personal comment, just an automated check.

And my guess as to the reason yours got auto rejected would be the nonpermanent decorations depicted.

A lot of good advice has been given above - I would address it before deciding if this should be appealed.
