I don’t trust those 360 photospheres. A lot of my early nominations were rejected because a professional photographer was placing beautiful photospheres with little to no regard for accuracy.
I find that a good supporting photo can be convincing. You can mention that Street View is out of date in the supporting text, and can point out things in your photo that reviewers can use to verify the location. You can also provide links in the supporting statement that prove what you say.
There’s not really an official way anymore. It would need several third party apps to do that
there’s this old guide, no idea if it still works:
There are very few ways to upload photospheres now, which is a shame because they are generally useful and accurate if taken in the field.
I use an Insta360 camera which can export to the Google StreetView if you have it installed still. That allows for single 360 degree photos to be uploaded with the correct geolocation data. Google would prefer that you create a photopath instead which I find takes a long time to process and is less accurate.
Be warned, compatible 360 degree cameras can be expensive and Google can drop support for them at short notice (guess how I found that out). Gone are the days that you could stitch a photo together on your smartphone, you will instead need one of these - Create and Publish your own Street View images
What’s the thing that needs to be deleted in 1 hour in this reply?
I use a free app called camera GPS
It places the date and coordinates on the photo. This helps when it is a location where you can’t see it.
Maybe you could try that?
Yes. I use it in the supporting photo and point it out in the text along with why I have done that.
This would be for the supporting photo only. Do not use this for the main.
The primary photo is the one that will be used for the wayspot - hence the need for good quality, no people or car license plates etc.
The secondary photo slot is there to help the reviewer establish that it is where you say it is. So you can have photos with date and GPS imprinted. It is also to draw on them if there is a point on the photo that you want to draw the reviewers attention to, in order to locate the object. And some even use this photo slot to put together an image that is a collage showing different angles.
For most wayspots all of this is not needed. I find it helpful on woodland trails or where a new development has taken place. So consider it an option when needed.
