A Tale of Two Streetviews, and a Lesson in Due Dilligence

I got this in my reviews today.

Interesting sculpture, thing… So I did what any good reviewer would do and I checked to see if I could see it on Google Streetview and I was greeted with this:

Uh Oh! That doesn’t look right! The supporting photo was NO help…

The building looks the same though, so maybe it’s just mislocated somehow. So I moved the Streetview a single space to the right and, lo and behold:

Nailed it! In actual Google Streetview it lists the Image Capture Date, which for the first picture I shared is October 2020. The second is June 2024.

So I wanted to share this, in hopes that others could learn from this and we all ensure that we’re doing our due diligence in reviewing potential Wayspots, and how something as simple as where you drop your pin can have a huge impact on the information you are presented with.

I do have one question for the Wayfarer team. Can we get the “Image Capture” added to the Streetview in our reviews? Please?

You rejected that nomination as not “Permanent and(/or) Distinct”, right?

The cow has little wheels on it.

Looks like it is in the same place in May 2024, Jun 2024, and whenever this proposal was made.

Just because it has wheels doesn’t make it temporary. Can it be moved? Sure, but it’s spent several months in the same location. For all we know the wheels are broken and don’t work.

The Streetview of it in its location, the same as the photos, was enough for me and I voted to approve it. At worst I would maybe have considered an “I don’t know” for temporary and distinct, but even that to me is stretching it.

Either way, that’s not the point of the post.
