Hello,
You have to use your best judgment while following the criteria. We can’t say what is real and what is false without examples, but some may stand out more than others.
For instance, some fakes I’ve had in my area were of murals that, when I did a reverse image search, were actually in another country and not on the side of the building the pin was at. Others were 3rd party images that were taken from another website (I had one of these yesterday for a playground; seems someone wanted a Wayspot in their backyard, too).
Duplicates will be on the map, and when you click on them, there’s an option to mark as such. The photo and info provided may be different, but you can usually tell from the photo of the current Wayspot and the nomination they are duplicates, but not always. If that’s the case, checking the map a little closer, even checking Street View if available, may help.
Again, use your best judgment. Using the Repot button is quite rare, and usually only in clear cases where abuse is possibly involved. You can also thumbs down on Accuracy and choose one of the abuse reasons.
If it’s the same image as the other Wayspot but in a different location, it could be seen as a low quality or inaccurate photo. I’d assume that a map could be somewhat different depending on where it’s located, such as noting a different location for where you currently are.
This would be another good case of checking the map, and Street View if it’s there. It may not be fake, but it could be that the submitter didn’t bother to take photos of the different maps.
That can be hard to tell! I usually look for a “You Are Here” marker on the map, look at background details, etc. The same base image for the map may be common across different wayspots, but they generally have something (like the pin point) that makes them unique to that location.
I know of several large nature areas, with trails, that have map markers in place at assorted locations. These maps are identical, except for the “You Are Here” pins, but each is a separate map kiosk/stand/plaque with a different photo for each Wayspot if they’ve been nominated. I’d consider those valid as trail marker maps, despite the similarity in the base image on the map itself. Is that the situation we’re talking about here? Sorry, at times the translation tool does not accurately convey meaning, so I’m hoping I am understanding correctly!
Thank you for the confirmation! Glad I was able to help. For nominations that don’t meet any criteria, be sure to click No on one of the first four categories - like for a normal business, choose “Generic Business” or if it’s a common object one can choose “Not permanent or distinct” because one cannot be distinguished from another. Clicking No on the “social, explore, exercise” questions currently doesn’t seem to lead to a rejection for that individual review.
Ok merci pour l’aide
Salut!
