I’m this instance the waypoint will most likely becoming a rotating Power Spot, or something new in the future.
Whatever the result is, any map MUST be accessible through a web browser. I have having to use apps for every different thing, and they are almost always bad for usability in some way eg lack of copy-paste or no deep-linking.
Just want to remind everyone that if you already use the toggle on the nomination map to see existing Wayspots or imports, you are using a mapping service. I know that there are some that only use this to see if the POI they are thinking of nominating is currently a Wayspot or not.

I’ve given my answers. I think a map is a very important and beneficial part of wayfarer.
There’s no timeframe listed as to if or when the polls will close. Right now though, it would seem as the community would want a mapping service, since it’s at 91% Yes right now, with 235 votes cast. That’s 215 Yes votes to 20 No votes for the first question.
Unfortunately, this toggle has serious problems that make it inconvenient and pretty much unusable for planning:
- it doesn’t load wayspots outside of 500m home radius
- even if that was fixed, the distance is still limited by the 10km remote submission range
- the wayspot details view doesn’t show coordinates
- wayspots and non-wayspots are mixed together.

キャンプファイヤーにどのように導入しますか?
All I’m pointing out is that it can still be used as a mapping service.
Campfire for PoGo players already has a map. It shows game play locations, such as gyms and Power Spots, but doesn’t show all Wayspots in the database, including many regular stops.
Right now, the map in Campfire focuses more on finding raids, active Power Stops, routes, playgrounds, along with community meet-ups, groups, and catch cards for recently caught Pokémon from someone wanting to show it off, such as a shiny.
The info is very limited, with one having to click on the directions button just to pull up in another map app, such as Google Maps, just to get the coordinates from there. You can’t copy the titles, and if you want to see all the photos and description at a gym, you have to be within a certain radius and then open it in PoGo.
Right now, you can only submit nominations and edits via PoGo. We don’t know if nomination/edit submissions will be brought to the other games that Scopely acquired, but Wayfarer is separate from the games and many use mapping services for the variety of reasons listed in the original post.
Well, most others here already covered the points I’d like to bring up so I’ll (try to) keep it brief.
Having a waypoint map is absolutely necessary for wayfarer to work well. The vast majority of us submit to get new stops / gyms / other game POI’s, and if we don’t have a map to assist in planning, this becomes far more challenging. The only way I could see not having a map work would be if the “inclusion rules” all got tossed out the window and all games started using all waypoints. And even then it would still be messy.
As for potential new & returning features mentioned in the polls, I’d be in favor of pretty much everything except submitting edits from the map. Unlimited range on edits would be way too exploitable by bad actors. If this could be limited to have a similar range to what Ingress used, that’d be reasonable enough. Or perhaps unlimited distance edits could be reserved for wayfarer & maybe community ambassadors. Either way there would need to be some safeguards in place. Unlimited range edits for everyone would backfire for sure.
Long distance edits sure will be abuse. We have enough ald of people complaining about why this wayspot continuously removed and appealed multiple times.
I am surprised that there is no system to check how many times the wayspot has been reported (well this one just for wayfarer team)
This will surely increase backlog. And slowdown actual nomination process
we may as well have nothing at all with as useful as that is
Hard disagree. Wayspot text should be editable from everywhere. There’s very little in the way of text edit abuse that isn’t “please move this to make a pokestop” which doesn’t happen from remote editing. Even the LDS edit spam in the US was not considered an issue by Niantic. The overwhelming majority of abuse is focused on making fake pokestops or other game specific wayspots and that’s not gonna stop. By allowing text edits from anywhere, all of us who actually care can improve titles and descriptions we come across remotely and that will absolutely outweigh any random pockets of abuse.
I don’t think being able to edit from more than a few metres away would lead to much more abuse than now. But I think it would lead to more legitimate edits. I don’t have time to edit things as I pass by, or maybe I’m on a train that pulls away too fast, etc. Maybe I was on holiday and meant to do some edit stuff but didnt get around to it. Would be very cool to be able to do all that later when home etc. I think as well, being able to edit at distance would help with fixing typos etc or adding more detail
Ideally, for me, being able to turn on certain approval filters would be nice. i.e. the various cells for Pokemon GO, so I can prioritize certain areas to get a gym added. This layer would also be nice to see on the in game submission menu, so that you can actually tell if the submission will show up in the game you are using to submit it.
Again, not bringing up the pros and cons, just that it is a mapping service. Some may have voted No without realizing they use the location map and toggle while nominating to see if the POI is a Wayspot or not.
I know some of the pros and cons… but choose not to engage in that level of discussion in fear that it could lead me to being shouted at…
The intel map is going to become even more unreliable with the Scopely separation. We need a gameboard map with access to all waypoints in the database. I believe the Ambassadors & Niantic staff have access to this. The wayfarer app had access in the past, maybe bring that back.
