Hi @SakoRUnited
I’ve moved your post into the main map thread.
Thanks @DTrain2002
The VAST majority of answers assume (and worry) that Scopely will keep the same S2 grid for deciding what becomes a Pokestop or gym. And the same nomination process.
What if they switch to a distance rule instead? Then you’d know when you’re standing there - and could easily explain wheresmypokestop to anyone.
What if the nomination map greys out locations that can’t host another stop/gym (by whatever rule determines it)?
I’m sure there are other potential solutions to the pinning problem, that would take a LOT less coding than a game map.
The big issue is you can’t see S2 grid cells which are absolutely crucial for planning, especially for pokestops/gyms. That’s a massive shortcoming of the in-game submission map.
Again, not discussing, just pointing out that it is a mapping service…A bad mapping service.
Now, please stop tagging me…
ok
There was no need for a reply.
All I wanted with the post was to point out that the location map while nominating can be used as a mapping service, end of story.
Even if scopely did decide to change to a purely distance based ruleset, having a map would still be needed as it may not be inherently obvious how far distances on the map are. I’ve certainly needed to reference maps when submitting ingress only waypoints before, and it does use a 20 meter distance rule.
That’s also ignoring that changing the ruleset now would likely cause a huge mess for most communities that already have ideal areas set up. Furthermore, scopely is acquiring three games here, not just go. So unless they swap all of them to a distance ruleset, cells will remain relevant to at least some players.
But even assuming they did swap all 3 games to distance rules, that still doesn’t account for gym placement in go (or mushroom placement in bloom.) And again, even with distance, it’s not always inherently obvious how far you need to go from the ingame map(s).
All that to say, we really do need a map. Other solutions would just not be adequate enough, and/or would cause more harm than good.
The only things that I might want to be able to see on a theoretical map not already mentioned are Sponsored Wayspots. Since I still play Ingress, I still use Ingress Intel Map. However, I would like to see those on the map when I play Pokémon GO and Pikmin Bloom (assuming any Sponsored locations exist in the last game). I know any Sponsored Wayspot should be ignored when reviewing unless the nomination is that Sponsored Wayspot. If the location is something at a Starbucks, Walmart, etc and not the store, that is different.
Dunno if anyone else has mentioned it, but it wasnt in the questions, i would like the map to have the s2 cells (or if scopely changes the inclusion rules, to have that) on rhe map as well, to help me decide if its worth submitting right away or save for when i dont have anything else on the list to submit (just now i bery rarely bother submitting something if its not going to appear in ingress or pogo, so after it would just be pogo lol)
I actually think a toggle to shoe powerspot only optipns of the map would be useful (obviously not for reviewing) to try and aet up edits for those, cause some of these powerspots are awful, i have one near me called “milngavie spar”, milngavie is a good 5km away from me and soar is a chain corner shop, its currently on top of a house lol so bei g able to edit its position to the correct place (even if it ahouldnt be in game imo) from tbe map would be useful, or even checking if it has moved as powerspots leave forna while
I would assume iitc would work for ungress/spatial, simply cause thats what iitc used for mainly, playing ingress, but it was also helpful for submitting stuff lol
That would be amazing actually. I do hope that Scopely reduce the reliance on cells - I feel they should be used to make gyms but not to decide what appears
I don’t think Scopely will mess with the S2 Cells. Changing to a distance based system would change the map drastically.
In regards to mapping I do use a website that currently does the majority of what is being asked (won’t mention it’s name as link was previously removed) but the data is user generated and extremely out of date in some areas but with live data from the database it would be fantastic…
- Filters for wayspot types.
- S2 Cells.
- OSM / Satalite / Roadmap options.
- Occupied cells highlighted.
- Spot / Gym count for each L14 cell.
We really need a way to edit “portals”.
I’ve never been an ingress player and there are lots of reasons we should be able to edit location data for items not in game. Namely, the remote submission bug, where submissions ended up at the last submitted location. So legitimate things that should be in game are in the same GPS coordinates as your previous sub. I can show other examples.
Wayfarer is being disconnected from Ingress, so it will no longer have any way to edit portals. If by “portals” you mean wayspots that aren’t used in pokémon go,
These can be fixed through the Wayfarer help chat, as long as you provide some evidence, like geotagged photos.
The main issue is actually knowing that multiple wayspots share the same coordinates. This can show up on the duplicate map while you’re reviewing nominations, and it was also visible on one of the dev maps.
As mentioned above, we need a map that shows all wayspots, (and then we can figure out what needs fixing).
And it needs to make clear which exclamation points aren’t really wayspots to clear up the confusion of the powerspot imports added to the nomination map screen.
I can confirm that this Exclamation point ! <— isn’t a Powerspot…
Over the past few months i used the wayfarer ios app so i could see where a wayspot had already been accepted and where something hadnt yet been submitted or accepted as a wayspot, this would also help me as we currently only get 40 nominations per game which is not that many and being able to see what was already accepted meant that i could use my nominations more effectively
Being able to see a map of current pokestops and gyms in my area for example would be useful as this helped me decide where i would like to go when i get time away from work and i tended to submit more nominations in locations where there were less pokestops/gyms as more gyms and pokestops would help more players
I know there are maps elsewhere that have a current area map with pokestops/gyms and also additional features (Gym capacity and colour/ pokestop showcases and team rocket takeovers etc) and although i doubt scopely would give us a world map with this functionality it would help with planning which locations could do with some new nominations to create new pokestops/gyms especially in more rural areas
Having a map with all the current wayspots in any format though would be a great help as i find myself using the ingress intel map almost everyday to see what i have visited, where i haven’t visited and also whether any new portals have appeared as well as the missions (it would also be nice to have a wayspot map with the routes from Pokemon go as well so you can see where other people have been and it may give inspiration into future visits for people to a particular place)
Thats exactly what i meant, we’ve never had a way to edit portals.
I know about help manually doing the work and we have reached out to help to have stops moved from the glitch, but have several other examples of “portals” that are in the wrong spot. Like my local park, there is a memorial bench that is in the wrong spot, still in the correct cell, but there is a foot bridge that’s also in the wrong spot that is also in that cell which is the wrong cell. I don’t think support will help with these, if they will, i can make a list.
help chat will handle any location edit request that is valid and has sufficient evidence
