I think so. If it does not appear after the sponsored gym goes away, you should ask again. I am not an expert on this stuff.
Maybe try making bug report in pogo?
Wayfarer have no control over which wayspot become gym.

Well i think you can try again now. Since its no longer niantic.maybe different peoplr will handle it

I believe that the majority of the Pokemon Go team moved over to Scopely.
Well thats why i said OP should try again. It seems bugged. There is no harm in trying to report bug
