Could we please have a public map of wayspots so we don't accidentally submit duplicates

I thought I was doing a good deed for the community, you know? Now I’m just here embarrased and upset that because I wasn’t playing a game that had the specific landmark, I get a rejected submission and probably sullied my reputation score because of a very easy mistake.

Seriously, is Ingress the only game where every wayspot is visible? What gives? How about other players who are more interested in the other games? “Yes yes please do submit a wayspot if you can’t see it in game - oh not that one, sorry, we already have it but you’re not allowed to interact with it because you’re playing PoGo/MHNow/whatever”

I’m sorry if I sound heated because it shouldn’t be no big deal, but you know, I’m not sorry for a mistake that isn’t my fault. You want people like me to submit and approve, but how can we even verify a duplicate before submitting? Why not a way to submit a landmark for visibility in other games?

How far back do I have to bend for a map of every wayspot?

Hello @androsa
I’m going to move this to the General Discussion area as this area is for technical issues.
Yours is a very good point and is more about a discussion. Nothing wrong with a bit of a rant.

Not all wayspots appear in Ingress. If a wayspot is closer than 20m to another wayspot it wont appear.
Not all wayspots appear in Pokemon go. The rule is different and is based on S2 Level 17 cells.

There are wayspots that don’t appear in either Pokémon Go or Ingress.

And there are wayfinders who just submit not worrying which game the wayspot will appear in …if any.

All of us have had submissions rejected it happens. Its annoying but it happens.

Your submissions do not have an effect on your wayfarer rating. Your wayfarer rating is how you perform as a reviewer.

Also, for future reference, when you submit through Pokémon Go, the first screen you get to is the map screen. This can show you all wayspots within 100 metres of your current physical location if you have the toggle enabled (which I’ve highlighted in the screenshot below).

Anything that’s in Pokémon Go will be marked as a blue icon, whilst anything that isn’t in Pokémon Go is an orange icon. Either way, they’re in the database, so submitting them would be a duplicate. You can tap on the icons to see what they represent. Like I say though, it’s important you do this at the location of what you’re submitting, as it only shows things around your current physical location. It doesn’t update if you move the pin elsewhere on the map.

Hmm, I could have sworn that the marker that was up was for a different landmark in the area. There were two info signs, but the one present as a gym was the only visible one. Might try again just to see what that marker was.

I just want you to know that while I understand feeling the way you do, I want to reassure you that there is nothing to be embarrassed about at all! We’ve all submitted things that were already in other games, or don’t show up on the maps we have available at the time. If you’re submitting through PoGO, hankwolfman’s info on the map screen is super helpful for the future. I hope this doesn’t prevent you from submitting more things for your community in the future! If you ever want help checking to see if something is already in game, or have nomination questions, we’re here!

I am still have trouble remembering that Ingress doesn’t show all Wayspots, and it has been years. Poor Calvin is in the database with some generic name.

And that time I even remembered to check with the Pogo nomination map screen toggle, but I was too far away I guess.

Duplicates happen.

Some of us are 1diotic enough to still submit something that’s in the database even with a map of every Wayspot.

Which does exist @androsa but I can’t talk about it because the hoi-polloi like you and I are not supposed to use it…

But yes a map from a company that has it’s roots in mapping would be the very least they could do for their ’ community’

So an update on this.

It appears to have been a case of mistaken identity. I thought from in game, the stop that was already there was a different sign from what I was submitting. Turns out the waypoint is slightly misplaced - though in general it’s still an “accurate” location.

The path has two signs on either side. The gym that was there was positioned on the right, so I submitted the sign that was on the left. As it turns out, the gym on the right is actually the sign on the left. I wouldn’t fault reviewers because the map view is completely obscured by trees.

I’ve gone ahead and this time made sure the spot I was submitting wasn’t already there (in game or on submission), so hopefully this works. Still, would be nice to have a map to see in general, maybe a way to plan out submissions rather than go there and find out it’s submitted but for another game.
