Nearby Wayspots now visible from Ingress submission map

Finally!

Just checked in the scanner, and there are multiple nearby “Wayspots” denoted by an exclamation point during submission. They don’t appear as portals in Ingress even though several aren’t proximity-blocked, and they don’t show on the geospatial browser either. They have the generic placeholder image. They’re pretty generic businesses. Possibly PowerSpot imports? (I don’t play PoGO, so wouldn’t know if they are or not.)

Yeah =(

I hate that they have included the Powerspot imports. On the PoGo map, too. We don’t need to know they are there if they are not true Wayspots and don’t count as duplicates if submitted.

Please forgive my ignorance, I have read the threads about PowerSpots, but didn’t really pay the topic too much mind as I don’t play that game.

Do you mean these locations aren’t visible on the map during review? (I guess that makes sense, if they’re not showing in the geospatial browser.) So wouldn’t be marked a duplicate if submitted through Wayfarer (assuming they met criteria otherwise, and there wasn’t already an actual duplicate Wayspot)?

As far as I can tell, they don’t show to reviewers in community voting. The one Powerspot import I submitted as a Wayspot was eventually accepted. We have seen some cases where the appeals reviewers seem to see the imports in some “duplicate” or “connected to” decisions, but nothing that has been acknowledged or confirmed.

Most Power Spot imports that aren’t unused Wayspots are generic businesses, and many won’t have photos when you click on the exclamation point. They will be listed as being a Wayspot used in another game. It’s a little odd, as they aren’t Wayspots in the database.

And yes, it does seem as if these don’t show up as duplicates to reviewers, but the appeals teams may see something else, but yeah, nothing confirmed.

One thing that Power Spots have created are more nominations for generic businesses, so I hope this doesn’t start happening with Ingress, but it just may. Ugh…

Well spotted! We know it was a long requested feature from our Ingress explorers. Hopefully it’s as helpful as expected. And yes, it is going to show all the location including (and especially) the ones not used by Ingress.

I’m hopeful it won’t, since they’re not showing as portals in-game, but who knows :man_shrugging:

Why do Ingress players need to see Power spot imports? They aren’t used in Ingress, and aren’t Wayspots that will be duplicates if submitted.

Well as long we know its powerspot, we can ignore it

Is it possible for it not to show only Power Spot locations? Or perhaps have a toggle for that?

Would also be useful for Pokémon GO too.

To elaborate, the Power Spots/Imports seem to serve no value on Ingress and I imagine it’s a mess in places like India where 4sq imports were removed. Especially when the Ingress team have been pretty clear they only want user-submitted Wayspots to show on their game.

And I would like to add that power spot locations are not impacting the nomination process in any of the games because these do not show in the review flow and can therefore not be duplicated.

So why show information that has 0 impact on the function of nominating new wayspots, while it only clutters the map and confuses nominators to maybe not nominate new wayspots, because they might be too close to those locations.

Isn’t this update a hint that imported Wayspots might eventually appear on the review map?

Echoing the sentiment, while I am immensly grateful that the duplicate map finally made it to Ingress showing the “Power Spot imports” that aren’t actually part of the base Lightship database (as in, not visible during reviewing or in the Geospartial Browser) seems very counter intuitive. It makes sense to show the ones that actually got imported like the 4sq POIs as they can be marked as duplicate.

Unless you know that the Power Spot POIs are not actually blocking new stuff people wont nominate them as “real” Wayspots with a better picture, a description and maybe a better title.

Did they have a range? In Pokémon Go you can only see the other wayspots 200m or so of your stand point.

Seems to be the same range

Thx

GOOD TO see

Not all imports are for Power Spots. For example, some are actual stops/gyms in PoGo, such as sponsored ones. Some are imports done in certain countries that have a lack of game play locations, like India.

If you look at the nomination map now, when you click on one of the exclamation points, it just says that it’s a Wayspot that’s used in another game.

I would hope not, as then generic chain businesses would be allowed, as that’s what most Power Spots currently are, or apartment buildings in my neighborhood. I’ve only found a few Power Spot imports that may meet criteria but aren’t actual Wayspots yet.
