Criteria Clarification Collection - Discussion

May i know How About Gym at Private Apartment?

Having a wayspot in the communal space of an apartment block or gated community is fine.
Whether it becomes a gym or a pokestop is then down to the rules in Pokémon Go.

Big mass produced trail markers are rejected, even with individual markers, because they are regular direction signs in the understanding of Niantic itself. Small direction signs which are really mass produced signs and always looking the same are eligable wayspots. Really, that make no sence. The big ones are signs, cyclist really need and iv’e seen them all around germany beeing accepted. So what should the wayfarer decide in both cases?

Clearification needed!
I reject all of them. These road name signs are often named as Monument or Plaque. In my optinion they are all generic road signs just with an additional information, where nobody can see, where or what the wayspot is. Am I right? They’re a often accepted in Germany but I don’t accept them in all cases. How should the wayfarer decide?

I would handle these differently.

The focus should obviously be on the information plaque, not on the street sign, otherwise it’s a slam dunk rejection.

If the submitter shows how the plaque meets exploration criteria there’s not really a problem from a criteria standpoint, but there is an additional issue to look at.

There is no nationwide format for these small informational plaques. Some are very detailed, some are very minimalistic. Some have information about locally notable people, some just have a bunch of those for any celebrity in the country.

I would preferably vote positively on those where the submitter made the effort and the information is about something / someone with local ties.

Anything else is very difficult or really a rejection.

Thanks for the reply. I am right now rejecting them, until now because none until now had a famous local name in it, no one had an information about, whats the effort is. They were all just for having a spot by naming it Monument or sth like this. It’s clearly just an information about after whom the street is called.

Next one. This is clearly to accept. Location, image, description everything 100% correct and a marker following the rules. Nobody knows how to handle them.

Here’s the clearification for trail markers. A bike is on it, it is acceptable no matter if they are generic: Trails & Markers

From that post you cited, “ Generic utility identifiers and street furniture such as street names, car traffic directional signs, and bike lane signs (et cetera) are not eligible.”

Without more information, it’s impossible to tell, but the photo seems to be what would be considered a generic bike lane/route marker.

Do you have any additional information that you can share for the bike marker?

Sure, all markers are a part of “Berliner Mauerweg” and it is written in the description:

And by the way, it is NOT a bike lane sign, it is a direction sign for a trail to the next waypoint. Both, the small and the big ones with distances are direction signs only for bikes & pedestrians.

Just rejected, no Idea why

You can even see first picture 1:1, second with more view to the environment. The historical way is already descripted in the title.

100m away from it accepted. No one can see a way how to handle this.

The direction of the Mauerweg plates is clear to see even with no arrow in it.

The signs meet criterea ‘Exploration’, the name of the way is on the plate. If such signs at an official historical walk and bicycle way gets rejected, thousands of trail markers should get out of the database.

So in conclusion to my question how wayfarer should handle Trails & Markers I came to this answer:

  • The marker needs to be unique. Every 5 km the same marker marks them as generic.
  • The marker needs a logo.
  • The marker needs the name of the trail.
  • The marker needs an arrow.
  • The trail must be well documented online.
  • Two or more marker at one point: each of them must be different to the other at least at one point (eg. the arrow).
  • Direction signs for bikes & pedestrians with distances on them are generic, even with an individual plate unter/above/next to them, even they only exists once. Unless they are wooden, then it’s okay.

Note: documentation doesn’t gurantee the wayspot: Appeal removed hiking trailmarker - #2 by NianticAtlas - first it was two times rejected, then at least accepted.

Note 2: Possible Wayspots on trails with historical, cultural or religional background don’t mark them as possible candidates for a wayspot when only one of the first 6 points doesn’t fit.

You can have a “decorative” fountain but if it can demonstrate the 3 main points of a waypoint - I don’t see why not at the absolute minimum. (Given there’s ped access, not a single family)

I haven’t noticed anything added to the clarifications from this discussion. But tonight the Instagram tag issue came up again. This had been settled in a post on the old forum that using the @ is not allowed:

But people are arguing that since that link is broken, the clarification no longer applies. Can we get a clarification on Instagram tags as artist’s signatures?

(I don’t care which way this goes, I just want to review correctly.)

While we’re at it, I’d also like a clarification on treating artist signatures as instagram tags.

If I’m crediting an artist who has signed their work, should I use the name they signed with, or should I make something up that removes characters because I don’t like them (careful, the wrong answer might result in disemvoweled artists!)

you know that the @ links to their work. if Niantic does not want links, we should not use them

the issue is not disliking them

The @ is part of the signature they’ve used to sign their work. If they include it in their signature, who am I to say they aren’t allowed to do that? It’s irrelevant why they’ve included any given character in their signature, what’s relevant is only that it is their signature and calling them something else is the height of disrespect for the artist and their work.

Has @NianticTintino specified anything about neighborhood signs yet?

nope

Not surprised tbh. Also, do you know where I can find criteria information on footbridges? I can’t seem to find any on here after the forum did its update.

i don’t know of anything specific i can point to for footbridges anymore. but i submit them as i always have: they promote exercise by making the trail passible, and some scenic ones are a destination for exploration.

Could you please re-read what I wrote and then re-phrase what you wrote, because given what you wrote doesn’t make any sense to me. Thanks in advance.
