Does mass reporting nonexistent wayspots have a chance of getting my account flagged for abuse?

At a college in a somewhat major city, about 90% of wayspots are in wildly incorrect locations or flat out do not exist. I’m talking wall decor in the middle of fields, benches in the water, outdoor statues in the middle of buildings. I went around submitting removal requests for the most egregious ones but I’m unsure if it can be seen as abuse. I have evidence to prove basically all of them, but it seemed easier to use the built-in removal requests in-game. I really wish to make the database accurate but I’m afraid it’ll backfire and I’ll somehow get banned.

I don’t think this would be seen as abuse if you are able to provide evidence that they don’t exist. This is why I tend to take photos of the area, upload them to a 3rd party photo upload service, and provide the link in the comment section when reporting removal.

Database accuracy is important, so you’re doing the right thing by reporting these Wayspots, and making sure you have evidence. Even if the reports get rejected, you can appeal them in Wayspot Appeals with the evidence that you have.

Just for note, indoor wayspot might be harder to prove compared to bench on water or wall decor in field.u might want to try the easy first

Geotagged images or Scaniverse splats can help with proving indoor removal requests.

I do not estimate this as likely at all where legitimate removal requests are involved. Even if something like this were to happen by mistake, in the case of legitimate removal requests, it can be easily demonstrated there was an issue with the wayspot in the first place.

Note two things:

  • you mention wildly incorrect locations. If they are indeed misplaced instead of flat out not there, that’s more likely to be a location edit rather than a removal request. Help chat can do this for you where the game location edit range is not sufficient, provided adequate evidence.
  • in-game removal requests may be rejected due to the lack of context in the little text field you get - these may require a second attempt in a place where you can provide your full evidence, like here on the forum in Wayspot Appeals .

Good luck!

I am currently banned from Wayfarer for that very reason. Tripped my one day ban for that, then lost account for 30 days, just to sign in today, when it should have been returned per all communication, and now I’m simply not allowed to review…

Hi @cur8or
Welcome to the forum :hugs:
Are you sure that your ban is grounded in removal requests?

That’s not correct.

Yes, you should have received an email telling you why you received a ban, and reporting actual invalid Wayspots and providing evidence that they don’t exist shouldn’t warrant a ban. There are some users here on the forums that only file removal request appeals that have been rejected and provide extra evidence for removal.

If may be best for you to start your own thread about your ban, along with providing more info. Keep in mind that bans are product specific, so if the ban came from one of the games, Wayfarer staff is unable to assist.
