Draft Mode is HERE - discussion

Sorry if I missed this, are we able to draft submissions when we’re out of submissions for the day, and does drafting use a submission?

I was just checking this feature out and noticed that it even will prompt an ā€œare you sureā€ message that lets you save as draft if you try to click off the nomination before submitting it. This is very cool and I think it’s useful for if someone were to accidentally click off so they don’t lose their work, and they can save it for later.

Thanks for this feature :folded_hands:

Hi @wooperIooper,
Amazing questions! Responses below:

  1. No, drafts do NOT use up your accrued submissions. An accrued submission will only be deducted once the draft is submitted.
  2. No, you will NOT be able to create a draft if you’ve run out of submissions. However, if you have 1 submission left, you should still be able to to create more than 1 draft

This of course is the initial set up so we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this.

That sounds great! Would love to create drafts when I’m out of submissions but I can just keep one forever so I can use the feature.

This might be too complicated to implement but it would be awesome if we could create a personal ā€œqueueā€ of drafts when we’re out of submissions that will automatically submit as soon as the submissions replenish, the same way that updates can be automatically applied

Yes, 1 chosen to be your forever submission :joy: thanks for the request too! I’ll see what others think about it in the upcoming days

Well, it’s no infinite submissions, or even an increase of the submission limit, but this should at least make sure that the submission limit no longer cuts my trail marker submitting sprees short, and will also let me partake in them more frequently. Overall, a net positive change. Bravo.

Will something be done about submissions that are sent in through the Wayfarer website not displaying the submitter’s username in-game? I would like to get proper credit for all my work in the local community, which is currently not happening for any submission I send in through the website (which I’ve been relying on more and more, what with the extra supporting photo opportunity and that very annoying bug that broke the space bar button for a while in Pokemon Go).

Not a feature I am likely to use myself (not a big numbers guy) but I love the fact that even after many years of the wayfarer process Niantic are still listening to players and implementing these updates.

Thanks all at Niantic.

I tried out the draft feature. It’s great that we can adjust pin locations when loading and editing saved drafts. This allows for precise positioning once back home.
This is a request. I understand the current 10km limit was likely well-considered, but it would be convenient to submit without this restriction if the location isn’t significantly different from the saved draft position. For instance, when applying while traveling, time constraints can sometimes be tight.

Also for those of us who commute to and from, or are mobile during, work… nearly half of my submissions have been over 10 km from my home, but all within 30 km.

What would happen if I were to drop a draft and then try to submit said draft when I am more than 10km away? Would I no longer be able to submit that nomination? Thanks.

EDIT: just tested and I can save a draft for something more than 10km away but obviously I get the ā€˜you cannot submit due to distance’ error when I go back into it. So I guess the answer to my original question is no.

Correct. Regardless of whether or not you were within 10km of the nomination at the time you made the draft, you must be within 10km at the time of submitting the Wayspot nomination to Wayfarer.

Yup, what @Tntnnbltn said :smiling_face_with_tear: we’ve gotten strong feedback from the Ambassadors to change this and allow for larger distance limits and it’s something we’re deeply considering for both the nominations and drafts through Web Submission.

its not much i am asking, but 10km is just way too limited for us adventuring wayfarers that roam the jungles, deserts and forests to find new wayspots

I think changing it from 10km when you submit to 10km when you create/save the draft is the best option. You still keep people from just making up PoIs across the globe, but allow people on vacation to draft a few spots.

I’m not sure if people would be able to abuse the system to create POIs around the world (why would they want to; where would they get the photos from?)

Increasing the distance in general to something like 25-100km would just make things easier

from the internet, streetview screenshots, chatgpt, and so on, since the wayfarer team does not delete wayspots when nomination photos are not taken by the submitter at the wayspot location.

Fair enough, the people that would do this stuff are already spoofing and using AI images anyways lol

But why would they submit a wayspot in a random location using third party photos? To what end?

Only reason I can think of is ā€˜First!’ on some new landmark or other. Like that bench in central park we read about. A lot of people are lazy and submit things without visiting the place themselves. That already happens at it is.
